A Thrilling Dark Fantasy Action Adventure

Hunters and vampires are fighting a secret war for control of the fabric of reality. Whoever acquires mastery of the reality shifting powers of the Metaframe will become the new gods of the universe.

"Imagine if you could change the rules of the game, what rules would you choose?"

Witness to a brutal murder, eighteen year old Anton Slayne is inducted by the mysterious Mr Wu into the secret society of vampire hunters, the Order of Thoth. He soon discovers that vicious local gangsters, determined Boston police detectives, and relentless Shadowstone operatives pale into insignificance as he is drawn into the machinations of the enigmatic vampire general, Chloe Armitage.

Heir to a legacy of extraordinary powers, Anton joins a team of hunters, but that is no guarantee of survival against the most powerful vampires in the world, especially when they're equipped with the latest available technology and super weapons.

"When mastery over your soul is at stake, survival is the least of your problems."

Be prepared to be blown away by a high-octane, dark fantasy, action adventure thriller, that would be at home in a summer movie blockbuster.

Ann Schwader (annkschwader) | 9 comments I'll be joining on this one. Have had the book on my Kindle for some time -- gotta love those virtual bookshelves that take up no space in one's office! But oh, do they ever get crowded . . .

Ian (RebelGeek) Seal (rebel-geek) | 409 comments I love this title! I would join if there was an audiobook.

Netanella | 100 comments Hi, Graeme, thank you for doing this.

I do have a question: even though I'm only on Chapter 2 of the 1st book of what appears to be to be a very long series, (view spoiler)

message 29: by Graeme (new) - added it

Graeme Rodaughan | 1271 comments Hi Netanella,

I'll leave this open without spoilers. The direct implications of the opening prologue start showing up in very significant and impactful ways from Book #4 'The Day Guard,' going forward.

Best to avoid the the blurbs of future books to avoid spoilers.

Trustno1 (carosabotage) | 22 comments It sounds far too enticing to wait. Btw the descriptions of the Divine Engine of Thoth are really cool.

Netanella | 100 comments I just laid the book down this morning. I couldn't wait until July either! Nicely done, although I am not too happy that (view spoiler)

Of course, payback's a bitch, so here's to looking forward to some of that in Book 2!

Ann Schwader (annkschwader) | 9 comments Question for Graeme -- non-spoiler: as an Egypto-geek, I'm really curious to know why you started the novel in 3023 BC. This is pre-Dynastic Egypt, so possibly putting it farther back in history gave you more room to plot . . . but I'd really like to know how you chose this date or era.

Kevin | 217 comments Y'all are in for a treat with this! I recently read books 1 and 2. An amazing series so far!

Hi Ann, I needed room to allow a 'Fantastically Advanced,' version of ancient Egypt to rise, fall and then vanish into the sands before our generally accepted history begins.

I.e. Driven by the needs of the story.

The location of the Temple is approx. 30 miles due west of Aswan.

That's kind of what I thought, since so little is known about pre-Dynastic times. But thanks for the confirmation! (-:

I have a question, Graeme. :)

What made you decide to write thriller books that contain lethal vampires and secret organizations?

Kieron | 12 comments Graeme is this your debut novel? Really need you to say yes so I can sync this group read with a bingo square in another group.😃

Hi Kieron, yes - this is my debut novel.

Graeme Rodaughan | 1271 comments Marie wrote: "I have a question, Graeme. :) What made you decide to write thriller books that contain lethal vampires and secret organizations?"

Great question, Marie.

[1] Thrills, action, danger, daring heroes and powerful villains are my stock in trade, and I love fantasy, science fiction and horror, so, I love to situate a thriller plot inside a story with fantasy, science fiction and horror elements.

In essence I love to write stories I would love to read.

[2] Throughout my life, any 'wake in fright,' nightmare I have had, typically has malign horrific vampires lurking in the shadows. They haunt my imagination and my stories.

[3] Secret Organizations? Because I'm a paranoid believer in conspiracies ... just kidding. I loved the movie "The Matrix," and the concept of a secret world that exists alongside the world we generally accept is a long standing fantasy trope that I happen to enjoy.

The secret war for the Metaframe is simply my take on this popular fantasy concept. I also liked the idea of having more than two opposed groups - as you never run out of bad guys that way - so, lots of factions.

[4] I read Blood Oath, by Christopher Farnsworth and I found the story so accessible that I thought to myself, 'you know, I could write something like this.' Reading Blood Oath, really opened up the door to my own writing.

[5] I had a major health issue in 2013 that acquainted me with my own mortality, and I came out of that process and decided to do something about 'that book I always wanted to write.'

Now, I'm hooked on telling stories.

Just a teeny weeny announcement on here for all members that are reading the series. We will be running the entire series through the group when this read is finished. We will schedule the books as buddy reads and plan them around reading schedules of the members.

Graeme will hang out with us as we read the series for any comments and/or questions members might have as they make their way through the series. :)
