Hot Yoga: 500pt

1a. A book with a twist - A Spindle Splintered, Alix E Harrow - 03/06/22
The "wicked witch" is actually trying to save the women with the Sleeping Beauty curse.

1b. A romance - Light from Uncommon Stars, Ryka Aoki - 30/06/22
One of the threads is the romance between the violin teacher and the doughnut shop owner

1c. An author you've been meaning to try - Witchmark, C.L. Polk - 01/08/22
The Kingston Cycle was was the Hugos best series nominee I was most interested in. I really enjoyed Witchmark, and read the second in the series back to back with it.

1d. A book with a lot of hype - Redemptor, Jordan Ifueko - 22/07/22
I'm never really sure what "hype" is, but this has a lot of good reviews from the likes of Kirkus, Booklist and NPR, rather than just within the Fantasy/SF community.

1e. A person is on the cover - Iron Widow, Xiran Jay Zhao - 05/07/22
Iron Widow (Iron Widow, #1) by Xiran Jay Zhao

Ninja Warrior: 2,500pt

5a. A book with more than 500 pages - Jade City, Fonda Lee - 09/08/22
560pt

5b. A book set primarily in Japan - The Village of Eight Graves, Seishi Yokomizo - 24/08/22
Set entirely in Japan

5c. A collection of essays, poems, or short stories - Never Say You Can't Survive, Charlie Jane Anders - 11/08/22
I was originally planning to use this for "memoir or biobraphy", but unexpectedly, when I started it, this turned out to be a collection of essays on writing.

From the Introduction: "Throughout that heinous year (2020), I was also writing the essays in this book, which explain how you can use creative writing to survive the worst things history can throw at you...With the essays in this book, I was reminding myself, as much as anyone else, that writing can be an act of self-preservation. That creativity gives us heart and purpose and clarity and the ability to keep going. You can heal yourself just by making up your own fables."

5d. A weapon is on the cover - Swordheart, T. Kingfisher - 17/07/22
Swordheart by T. Kingfisher

5e. A book with fewer than 5,000 Goodreads ratings - Smoke Signals, Joseph Flynn - 28/06/22
A mere 565 ratings
