Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Please read through the reporting thread carefully to ensure to report correctly to get your badge/s.

After you have read your chosen book(s) for this month's group theme read, please report in the thread below.

Please state what book you read (and link it), how it fits the theme, that you discussed it (and where), and briefly summarise what you thought of the book and/or link to your review if you have written one.

If you lead the discussion, please state this in your post.

Here is an example for how to report your read:

“I read Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone and discussed it in the [Harry Potter/Buddy Read/Other books in theme] thread. I really enjoyed the book. I watched the film first so I already knew the story line but I was surprised how much I enjoyed the book more as there was more detail involved. Plus I listened to the audio which was narrated by Stephen Fry who is a superb narrator. 4 stars.”

If you read more than one book which fits the theme, please report all your reads in the same post rather than in separate posts.

Please note, there are THREE different badges that can be obtained for group reads. Those reading and discussing one of the two chosen group reads will receive a colourful badge similar to those for previous group reads. Those reading and discussing any other book in the theme will receive a stamp. The discussion leader for the two chosen group reads will receive a badge stating they led the discussion. Maximum amount of badges you can receive for the group reads is TWO - one for the chosen group read/discussion leader and one for any other book in the theme.

In order to receive a badge you must:
1. put your Wall of Fame Name at the beginning of your post as follows: WoF Name - Peggy
2. have read the book(s) before or during June 2022.
3. discussed it in the relevant thread. Discussion must be more than "I read the book and I liked it". Discussion requires something more substantial and analytical of what you read, for example, thoughts, opinions, impact it had on you, what was your favourite part, was it what you expected it to be like etc. You may also like to review the book and post a link to the review in that thread.
4. Report that you have read AND discussed the book

I read Murder on Black Swan Lane and am currently discussing it in the discussion thread.

Well now I have another series to add to my TBR. I really enjoyed this historical fiction mystery. The dialogue is smart and humorous and there was depth to the plot. I was even surprised on who ended up being the villain/murderer. I would like to say that the main characters were interesting, they were fine, but it was actually the secondary characters that held my interest and I thought were more fleshed out. Can't wait to discover what happens in the next book.

This month I chose an independent read: Snow: A Retelling of "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs". Snow (Jessica) is pictured as a lone person on the cover. Snow A Retelling of "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" (Once Upon a Time) by Tracy Lynn .

This is a retelling of the traditional fairy tale of Snow White and the Seven Dwarves. I have never read a retelling of a fairy tale before and was not sure what to expect. There were some similarities and a lot of differences. Snow, in this version, is a young duchess whose stepmother follows a bit of the original story. When Snow escapes, she runs to London and is taken in by a band of thieves who are a cross of human and animal. Then it gets very strange. Instead of poison apples, there is an electronic device. I do believe that at this point, the author rather loses her way and it was harder to follow. It seemed a bit as she just kept adding fantastic characters in order to find something that would work.

All in all, it was a fairly quick read and she had me interested until the end. It seemed very pieced together. I was a bit disappointed in the ending but there was enough interesting in the book to keep me involved.

I read
Elektra
Elektra by Jennifer Saint
It has a lone human figure on the cover.
I discussed it in the thread.

Set in Ancient Greece, this is a retelling of mythology against the background of the Trojan War. Elektra is the daughter of Agamemnon and Clytemnestra (the sister of Helen of Troy). I really enjoyed it even though it tended at times towards soap opera. The cover is absolutely gorgeous. I will definitely read this author’s next book which she has hinted at being about Persephone.

I read Jane of Lantern Hill Jane of Lantern Hill by L.M. Montgomery and gave it 4.5 stars. It was beautifully written. The sort that seeps into our heart, warm it, and give an urge to fly to P. E. Island to witness its beauty. At first, I thought the MC was like Anne from Green Gables, but the more I read, the more I felt that she's a sensible and capable girl. Although there were event-less part toward the end, I still love this book and thrill to read her other books beside Green Gables. It's a perfect summer read.

I discussed one of the books that were chosen for the themed read this month, Murder on Black Swan Lane. This is my second read and I enjoyed it as much this time as the first. I have some of the next books in the series, and I needed a refresher which is why I decided to reread it. My favourite characters were the urchins and the butler. They added much of the humour to the story and kept it interesting. The bantering between the two main characters was fun as well.

I read Murder on Black Swan Lane and discussed it in the appropriate thread.

I really enjoyed the book. I am a big fan of historical fiction/mystery, so this one was right up my street. The banter in the story was great fun and the characters really seemed to bounce off of each other and grow throughout the book. Great writing, I have already downloaded the second in the series.

Karen | 42 comments I just started reading Stephen King’s 11/22/1963. It’s in paperback form and it’s sooo thick! I’m wondering what everyone thought about it … is it worth the long read?

Are you reading this for the themed read this month? If so, your comments should be in the generic discussion thread. This thread is for reporting your completed read.

You'll need to check with Peggy, but I don't think it fits the criteria of "lone figure on the cover". There is more than one figure on the cover.

I loved this book and think it's worth reading whether for a group themed read, challenge, or just because.

I really enjoyed this book and plan on continuing the series. The dialog was smart and fun. The secondary characters were really engaging. The mystery was fun and surprising - just all around a good story! This book left some mystery about the female MC that I am interested to find out more about. Great choice for this month!

I read Murder on Black Swan Lane. I had wanted to read it for a while. I discussed my thoughts on the book. I am not going to finish the series. It was okay but not that interesting to me.

I did like the verbal dialogue between Wex and Charlotte.

I've read and was the discussion leader Stoner by John Williams .
It was a beautiful, almost tragical story with a main line of stocism in it. Allthough it took place in the 1914's and then up to WWII, the story itself could be seen as very actual, because a lot of themes are universal and which you can relate to them.

I read Penguin Bloom The Odd Little Bird Who Saved a Family by Cameron Bloom and discussed it in the relevant thread. I wanted to read this since I heard her on a BBC Earth podcast and it was worth it. The images of the "penguin" throughout the book were beautifully captured and the story inspiring.

I read Murder on Black Swan Lane. I was the discussion leader in the group read thread. I enjoyed this story a lot. I thought the two main characters were great and loved the other significant characters as well. I enjoyed the combination of historical fiction and mystery and thought the story was very well done in both genres. I'm looking forward to reading the next in the series.

I also read Mug Shot and The Gatekeeper and discussed both in the general theme thread. Mug Shot was not my favorite read. It had too many tropes that I didn't care for. I don't plan to read any more of the series, unless I need one for a challenge. The Gatekeeper was a good start to a new series and I'm looking forward to seeing where the author goes with it. It was action-packed and humorous, which was a fun combination.

Murder on Black Swan Lane (Wrexford & Sloane, #1) by Andrea Penrose Mug Shot by Caroline Fardig The Gatekeeper by James Byrne

Tammy Burger (tammyburger) | 806 comments I read Murder on Black Swan Lane ( sorry not to link on vacation and mobile device.) I discussed it in the appropriate thread. It was on OK read for me. I’m not a huge mystery fan.

message 16: by Jenn (new)

Jenn | 3029 comments Haha, I knew that I had forgotten something lol well finally back online after camping trip - should not plan those for the end of the month - it screws up my reporting.

I don't expect badges this late, this is just for me.

I read Murder on Black Swan Lane, and really enjoyed it. It had a very Sherlock (movie) feel to it. Love the banter, great characters, and great story. Although it feels like there is a lot backstory that will come to light about most of the characters, I didn't feel that it detracted from this story at all, and will be looking forward to picking up more of the series.

I also listened to The Recovery Agent which was fun. The banter between Gabriella and Rafer, and their "guides" was great. But, I should really have looked closer when I started, as it turns out that this is the only book in the series that is published yet :(
