They were both compelling. If I have to pick, I will pick the Jesse/Sean storyline. Lots of things could have gone very wrong there and I think Jesse had a dose of what a sheltered life he led even if his stepdad was a criminal.
I like both for different reasons although the father son relationship between Sean and Jesse kept me focused on their struggle. It reveals a lot about Sean that he was so insecure. We didn't see that until Jesse came in his life. I loved that he jumped on Kane because Jesse seemed to look up to him more until Kane set him straight.I tend to gravitate to the personal relationships of the recurring characters although Lucy and Jerry working through their issues was very enlightening too.
I was more interested in the Sean/Jesse story. I wasn't sure if one of the boys was going to get seriously hurt before the adults stepped in to try to fix this.I thought the serial killer storyline was good, but my mind started wandering when they actually got to the profiling aspect of the story. It just felt like they dwelled on it for too long and it took me out of the story.
I love procedurals but the Sean/Jesse storyline hooked me more strongly because I was worried about them.
I find profiling fascinating and this was a biggie, made more compelling because of the lack of victim connection. It was a lot of detail to track but I didn’t get lost.
