Lucy knew at her first meeting with Jerry that this was not going to be a smooth working relationship. She chose to basically ignore his hostile attitude and work the case. Lucy was the total professional, Jerry, not so much.
I agree with Anita. Lucy worked hard to get Jerry to see that she was going to work with him. Jerry couldn't see Lucy as an individual, but another FBI agent out to get him. Even when we learn what happened, I couldn't give Jerry a pass for being a jerk.
Their relationship started out a bit adversarial. Jerry may not like the FBI and profilers because of what happened years ago, but he came to see that Lucy was a good investigator. Same with Lucy. She realized that Jerry hadn't taken any shortcuts on these cases. Lucy tiptoed around Jerry, hoping she didn't set him off. I think she did a good job.
I accepted that Jerry had a miserable experience with the Feds, even if I didn’t know the details. But, it didn’t entitle him to behave unprofessionally and as “experienced” as he claimed to be, he should have known better, to give the person in from of him a chance to show up differently. That said, he wasn’t terrible and I appreciated Lucy’s efforts to build bridges.
I think Jerry looked at Lucy and saw a stereotype. Young, inexperienced, female and basically dismissed her. Add to that his prior bad experience with the FBI and his mind was made up before Lucy even opened her mouth.
But he was making life difficult for her before she even showed up as he directed the crime scene folks to move the body. They delayed it against his direction so Lucy could check out the scene. I think all he heard was Fed and profiling.
