So I read the majority of this while my internet was on the fritz so I can only retroactively update as much as possible. What I can say though, is that it's never a good idea to leave too much space between the books of this series. I struggled to get back into it at first.

At 50% in (which is about 8 of the 14 chapters) it's still slow going, but that's to be expected with Jemisin's writing style and with the style of this series on the whole. My interest level keeps fluctuating with this one though, which I didn't have with the first two :(

@80% in the feelings are still much the same (view spoiler)[I want the uprising to happen already and for Nasun to open the gate and end the world as they know it. Those parts that directly deal with those plot points are when I'm most keyed in. But then there's so much in between fodder that I wish they would have cut out. (hide spoiler)]

OMG it took them til the end of chapter 13 (view spoiler)[to finally meet and they're reunion was so lukewarm I could cry. This is what we've been building up to for so long and now that it's happened I feel underwhelmed, while also understanding that it's perfectly in line with their natures and their relationship. I do like that the ending (view spoiler)[was somewhat hopeful with Esun about to try rebuilding the world. (hide spoiler)] All in all not my favourite in the series but it made me even more excited for the adaptation, whenever they do it.
