books with a similar writing style?

When I look at books that are marked as similar to The Secret History, they usually are similar in terms of plot (college students, murder, etc) but has anyone stumbled across an author that has a similar writing style to Donna Tartt? Books that share that sort of sophisticated inner monologue and that use interesting and descriptive language.

None so far as I've read. The Great Gatsby has a similar diarist style, but nothing is brilliant in my opinion. Definitely read the Great Gatsby if you haven't already..

I adore The French Liutenant's Woman! But I don't know if I agree the styles are that similar. "Woman" is more tongue-in-cheek, with lots of quotations and author's commentary, not to mention two alternative endings.

The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay - a more demanding read, more literary, less of a page-turning mystery though with plenty of twists and turns
The Rule of Four - many similar themes, a notch less literary, first person narrative
The Virgin Suicides - easier to get into perhaps, also first person, certainly a more straightforward book than his "Middlesex" which is overall a stronger and much more ambitious work
