I've just added this book. On the back cover it is mentioned that it won the "Romanprijs van de Gemeente Amsterdam" in 1964. This award is not listed yet and upon googling I found different capitalizations.

Could I ask one of you experienced librarians to add the award to the list and the book?
Thanks!

Elizabeth (Alaska) Got this one - thanks for reporting!

Umm.... my pov is to add the name of the award listed on the book. I'm assuming it is the correctly capitalised because it is a published book. Also the book is lacking summary and a cover. I can do that for you if you wish, just link me the details :)

Elizabeth (Alaska) I suspect the capitalization at this Amsterdam Museum site is correct.

lethe | 16359 comments I had just typed out a whole reply to Nandar and then it disappeared, sigh.

#4 That name seems to be in the list already, so I guess it's the right one.

I really have to be off to bed now, I'll reply tomorrow :)

lethe | 16359 comments Elizabeth, thank you for adding! Confusing that a prize may be known under various names.

Nandar, thanks for offering, but the description on the back cover was more like a review and I couldn't find a useable image online, so that's why I didn't add them.

Because I couldn't find any description online either, I've now tried to distil some objective info from the cover, and I also uploaded a photo of my own copy :)

This book has also won the Young Observer Teenage Fiction Prize (this seems to be the official name) for 1985.

This award is not listed yet. Please add to the list and the book.

Thanks in advance!

Elizabeth (Alaska) Lethe - do you have a link to this award, it's announcement, anything?

lethe | 16359 comments It was mentioned on the back of my copy. (It actually said 'Award' instead of 'Prize', but when I googled, 'Prize' seemed to be the preferred term.

For this particular book I found this:
http://www.walkerbooks.com.au/Authors...
and these:
http://www.abebooks.co.uk/NATURE-BEAS...
https://childrensbookshop.com/book-59...
http://antiques.gift/the-nature-of-th...

I haven't been able to find a full list.

It may also be called the Observer Teenage Fiction Prize?
http://booksforkeeps.co.uk/issue/47/c...

Some consistency would be lovely, wouldn't it?

Elizabeth (Alaska) I found that latter link, but I can't find a link to the prize itself. I will add it, I just thought it would be nice if we could find something "official" - and more winners!

I found this one, it even says so on the cover :)

More proof:

although they call it award

I can check more of the Google hits, if you like?

I would prefer not to find it just on the books, but find the award itself.

lethe | 16359 comments It's frustrating, isn't it. Searching for Observer fiction prizes only brings up a lot of Guardian links. Maybe because the Observer is now owned by the Guardian (since 1993) and the Guardian had its own children's book award, they sort of swept the Observer award under the carpet?

*is becoming paranoid*

We may just be able to enter them as you're finding them. Nothing absolutely awful about that!

lethe | 16359 comments Margaret Mahy

won in 1987:

Peter Carter won twice:

in 1983:

"Children of the Book (1982) describes the siege of Vienna of 1682 through the eyes of a janizary, a Polish youth, and the daughter of a burgher of Vienna; it is a powerful novel, anti-war, showing subtly the decline of the warring regimes, Polish knights and Ottoman janizaries, and the survival of the burgher.
Bury the Dead (1986), which, like Children of the Book, won the Young Observer Fiction Award, describes life in East Berlin before the wall fell;"

lethe | 16359 comments #16-18 Added them all. Observer Teenage Fiction Prize 1981-1987, only 1984 is missing.
