JoanOfSnark | 14 comments Preference for "found family" relationships, or characters who are partners in their work (e.g. a pair of detectives), especially if the characters start out hating or being irked by each other. If possible, I would love some recommendations from mystery, thriller, suspense, or spy novels. Anything with some good tense and dangerous scenes.

Sirvantes | 180 comments I'm not sure if it's what you're looking for, but "found family" and strong bonds and relationships abound in the compelling, but very dark, Armand Gamache detective series by Louise Penny.

Moloch | 342 comments a pair of characters developing a strong friendship (they end up considering themselves brothers): https://www.goodreads.com/series/4033... (they have a minor fight at the very beginning of the first book but they immediately get on well after). This is historical fiction (set during the Napoleonic Wars in the early 1800s)

this series is about a group (not a pair) of characters ending up working together in a police station in Naples, they're all flawed and not highly regarded by their superiors, but they end up forming some sort of "family" together: https://www.goodreads.com/series/8945...
In the books often the focus is more on the personal lives and relationships of the characters than on the mystery case itself.

Pamela Love | 1510 comments The Serge Storms novels by Tim Dorsey, featuring Serge and Coleman, starting with Florida Road Kill Florida Road Kill

SPOILER:

Coleman is supposed to be killed in an early book but returns a few books after that.

Libuska Lane | 11 comments The Lies of Locke Lamora (Gentleman Bastard series)

This is a fantasy series, but I think it checks all your boxes:
- Diehard platonic friendship
- Found family
- Characters are partners in their 'work' (aka crime)
- They used to hate each other/be annoyed with each other
- Spy elements (heist, disguises, fake names)
- Contains tense and dangerous scenes
- They have some good friend banter as well
