The Paris Architect by Charles Belfoure – 4 Stars (Rounded up)

Lucien, an architect in occupied Paris, hates the Nazis but equally feels no sympathy for the Jews. Whilst struggling for work and money, he is approached by a wealthy French industrialist who commissions him to design a secret hiding place, with the promise of further commissions to design factories for the Germans to follow. Throughout the book we see Lucien’s character develop, and his ideas begin to change when he develops some personal connections with Jews being hidden. There were few likeable characters and the writing was quite simple, but I liked the premise of this novel as well as the historical details.

You express the same opinion some of us had when we read it for Unofficial Trim amonth or so ago and rated it the same! Enjoyed but with reservations!
