I can't plan for this challenge until PopSugar releases their prompts. I do both but my own personal rule is I can't use a book for both challenges. I have some ideas marked down, but nothing finalized.

I have some specific books I plan to read for a classics GR group so I’m definitely going to fit them in first plus books, yet to be chosen, for our library’s sci-fi group. Other than that, I don’t plan to do too much planning since I never follow my plan. (I do enjoy the research process, though.) I have 10 suggestions that I like for the prompt “Suggestion that didn’t make it”. I’ll probably go with “Magical realism”. I wish I read enough books in a year to do a reject challenge!

You might be able to find books that do double duty - they fit both a rejected prompt, and a cover/title prompt.
I already spotted a few Tookie's, literary, and cultural books with 4-color-covers, star/moon covers, and non-horizontal titles.
I just looked over 2023 list and I love how the "related to science" and "related to the arts" prompts ended up essentially becoming multiweek prompts! It reminds me of how last year's list had "a book related to the beginning" and "a book related to the end" that kind of seemed like connected (non-consecutive) multiweek prompts too.I'm so excited to start planning for next year's list but like Chrissie, I don't overlap between challenges so I need to wait until at least November. And, indecisive person that I am, I don't know which books I'll end up reading this year, which is another reason I have to postpone the serious planning until the end of the December.

That's great Nancy! I did some research before voting each week, so I'm getting there. I have 3-8 possible books for most of the content prompts. I wish I kept a better eye on the big picture though, because these prompts aren't falling into themes that really excite me like they did for 2022. And my favorite topics aren't well represented. Last year I ended the polls on a real high note, but not this year.
I'm going to have to use some of the cover, title and related prompts for books that also fit rejected prompts. Otherwise my motivation will lag and I'll get distracted.

Emily, you should just read whatever the h you want right now. Just saying. When my kids were little, I didn't even have time to read a magazine (because I was teaching and in grad school at the same time). I got home from class at 10pm, to see my husband reading a magazine while one of the kids was still running around. We both still remember that meltdown. After but that, Saturday mornings were playground time for the kids with daddy, and quiet time for mommy.
Emily, if you need any help setting up listopias, or researching extra resources for them, or anything like that, please let me know. I have a lot for links and text for Tropical, and quite a few others, and I can do some digging on other sites.
Oh I just remembered... Many women get a huge surge of energy before they go into labor. They call it "nesting." I felt amazing, like superwoman. I was climbing ladders and everything. It doesn't last long - a few hours or days. My advice: When it happens, don't use up all that energy here. Use it to feather your nest, and get everything done at home that needs doing. Pack your go bag, daddy's or coach's go bag, do last minute shopping, and put towels in the car and other strategic places.
I'm always a bit disappointed that the voting ends relatively early in the year for me! I don't start planning until closer to the start of December when more challenges come out so I can coordinate the ones I want to do, so it feels like a long stretch between now and then.
NancyJ wrote: "... Oh I just remembered... Many women get a huge surge of energy before they go into labor. They call it "nesting." I felt amazing, like superwoman. The thing I missed most after I became a mother was being able to go out to the movies without having to arrange a sitter - so, go out to the movies!! Enjoy this special time full of anticipation.
Once I became a mom, reading time was slim for me. I read magazines and light paperbacks that didn't require a lot of my concentration (like the Stephanie Plum books) while I was nursing - I became expert at holding my book with one hand while holding the baby with the other hand. This only worked with my first. With my second, my older daughter was standing there staring at me - no reading time!! And I have no regrets :-)
Irene, that's exactly what I was going for with the arts and science prompts! They fit so perfectly next to each other, I couldn't help myself.
Thanks NancyJ. One of my friends mentioned this morning that there's only 11 weeks left of this ATY challenge, which reminded me that I planned on finishing it up before baby comes in (hopefully) 5 weeks. Lots to cram in within those 5 weeks!
But on the other hand, my book club read Find Your Unicorn Space: Reclaim Your Creative Life in a Too-Busy World last month and everyone agreed that books, this challenge and this group are my unicorn space, so when I'm feeling stressed or overwhelmed, coming back here and working on the challenge or talking books is what centers me and brings me back to who I am. There will definitely be some days that I'm on here less than others in the next few weeks, but I hope to carve out some time for myself every day in preparation for the baby.
All that to be said, if anyone has a list of resources and ideas that they would like me to add to any of the weekly threads, feel free to drop them here! It takes a lot of time to research the links to articles and such, so I'd welcome help if y'all have already done that. I usually pull from the KIS/BIO thread and the poll threads as well.

So before this thread clsoes I was very suprised how few lsits prompts made it this year. Much as I don't like them I am normally outvoted more foten than this year
Not sure anyone will see this BUT...We are so close to finishing the KIS/BIO list. I will be working on compiling the info for the last batch of prompts today. They will be posted on the 13th (hopefully!) For today we have:
41. A western
Baseline: No explanation given
42. A book found by inputting a favorite author on www.literature-map.com
Baseline: https://www.literature-map.com/
43. A book related to one of the Spice Girls' "personalities"
Baseline: The Spice Girls’ Personalities are: Scary, Baby, Ginger, Posh, and Sporty
44. A book with a cover or title that includes a route of travel
Baseline: No explanation given
45. A second book that fits your favorite prompt
Baseline: No explanation given

FWIW I do the Pop Sugar challenge too, though if next year's prompts are as lackluster as this year's I might not do it. But that doesn't stop me from picking books for the ATY challenge now, and if I have to move things around when that list comes out, so be it.

Popsugar has been a bit of a slog this year!
I like to use my ATY plan just to jot down new releases and owned books that fit, rather than it being a literal plan for what to read next year. I definitely wouldn't be planning so far in advance if I expected myself to stick to it!

I love love love planning my books but rarely keep to the plan, so I try to only plan 12 prompts at a time. And my book group won't have their list till mid-November so I try to wait till then to start organizing my ATY.
I'll be done with 2022 in early November, so there's going to be two months of nothing! Gasp! What will I read?

And other perfect placement: "A book with a con, deception, or fake" scheduled for the week of April 1st!!!
Happy to have the voting done. I was feeling a bit disgruntled about the choices in recent weeks. AND THEN, I looked at the full list as ordered by our wonderful Mods and I am excited about the challenge as a whole.

This is literally how it is every year for everyone lol. We're all tired and burnt out on trying to come up with ideas, and then the list is finished and we're all like "you know what we did a good job". Every! Year! LOL

I’m a little different this year, I’ve loved the list all year. No week was I truly disappointed by how the list was shaping up. I also love voting because I get to interact with everyone. I’m one of the people that’s terrible at keeping up with the other threads.
QUICK! Sorry but I’m trying to place a book and the tropics thread hasn’t started yet. Is the part of Australia where kolas live the part that is tropical?
Thomas wrote: "QUICK! Sorry but I’m trying to place a book and the tropics thread hasn’t started yet. Is the part of Australia where kolas live the part that is tropical?"All I know is koalas eat eucalyptus and those are not tropical trees. But that's not definitive. Hopefully someone else knows for sure.
Thomas wrote: "QUICK! Sorry but I’m trying to place a book and the tropics thread hasn’t started yet. Is the part of Australia where kolas live the part that is tropical?"Not really. Koalas live in eastern Australia, mostly temperate forests. Only far northern Australia is in the tropical zone. Look at Daintree Rainforest & Kakadu National Park - see if they have koalas.
The next (and last) Kis/BIO board has been posted for discussion: Sorry I am running late posting the final group of prompts, My grandfather went into hospice and it's been, stressful. I will get the latest KIS/BIO suggestions added soon but in the meantime:
46. A book with an unusual or surprising title
Baseline: “this prompt is about the words and meaning of the title, not the visuals of the cover”
47. A book by an author you read in 2022
Baseline: “For those of us who love series, this could be the next book in the series. For those who read stand alone books, this could be a chance to read something from the author's backlist”
48. A book by an Asian diaspora author
Baseline: “In honor of fighting Asian hate (heightened due to the pandemic), read a book by an author who is a member of the Asian diaspora (diaspora refers to “the dispersion of any people from their original homeland,” either voluntarily or involuntarily).”
49. A book where the cover design includes text that is not completely horizontal
Baseline: “Anything that is not entirely horizontal, where the cover designer had to purposefully change the text so it was not “straight-out-of the-box” typed text would count. Some is subtle, some is VERY obvious.”
50. A book with the theme of returning home
Baseline: “for example, people who return to their hometowns, prodigal sons/daughters, immigrants or refugees who return to their home country, people who return to the country of their ancestors, soldiers returning after war, etc. I think there should be a lot of options for fiction - literary, crime, mystery, romance, other genres - as well as nonfiction, memoirs, etc.”

Hi, all. I made a list to capture more info on fiction featuring bloggers and podcasters and other social media creators. Partly I personally am fascinated by the trope, and partly I hope to have more examples if someone submits it again next year. If any of you would be interested in adding anymore books you find to the list, I would be truly grateful.Fiction Featuring Social Media Types: Bloggers, Podcasters, Etc

Digital content, but not quite the same. I enjoyed it either way.
@Amy sorry about your grandpa. I'll keep you and your family in my thoughts. @Amy (Other Amy) I added some to the Listopia. I know there are a few others, but those are the ones I remembered off the top of my head. I'll add more as I remember.
Thomas wrote: "QUICK! Sorry but I’m trying to place a book and the tropics thread hasn’t started yet. Is the part of Australia where kolas live the part that is tropical?"Thomas, do you have a specific location? Book titles?
If your book is set in Queensland, then I would count it as tropical. Most of Queensland and the Northern Territory are north of the Tropic of Cancer, so they are tropical (or sub-tropical).
According to the map of Koala habitats, there appear to be some habitats located in Queensland, but most are farther south.
I posted a lot of information in the comments section of the Tropical listopia. If you know where a book is set, you can google the location and "latitude" or tropic of cancer. If the latitude is between 0 and 23 degrees South (or North), then it's in the tropical region. For instance, "Mackay Queensland Latitude" would tell you the latitude is 21 degrees south, or - 21 degrees, so it's tropical.

I know, I would love to, but 104 books isn't realistic. As much as I hate my job, I would like to have a new one, not be unemployed and have time for reading!
