Our Book of the Month for June is The Hunger Games. My bet is that most of you have already read this series, but maybe it's time for a reread! 😉

Awesome!! I've got the audio version, which was how I'd "read" it originally. :)

I'll be listening to The Hunger Games again as well. I did read the physical book originally, but often I enjoy "re-reading" by listening while I do chores or draw, etc.

Johanna Frank (johannafrank) | 27 comments Audio is a great idea.
The plot behind The Hunger Games is horrifying, but it certainly draws the reader in and gets one connected with the characters!

Rose Herondale-Greenbriar | 302 comments The hunger games, when you come to think of it,
is a very, twisted, deadly, psychological, game between the capitol and the districts.

River | 27 comments Yup and I loved it

Rose Herondale-Greenbriar | 302 comments I KNOW its so ....... ***can't think of any word other than good ***

Alright, you guys! I binge-read this a few days ago and have finished in record time! It's actually not as violent or disturbing as I remember it to be. It's got violence, of course, but it must've bothered me more the first time because I was younger.

Johanna Frank (johannafrank) | 27 comments Finished as well - I found the author did a wonderful job at telling the story without violence in your face. It definitely is a thought provoker ...I found myself thinking about Katniss when going about running errands - a good sign of a good book, one that draws you in.

Mm, interesting! Her POV was definitely super, super strong! She felt real to me, like she could've been a real girl in a real world, you know?

Celia (cealcrest) | 138 comments Finally getting into this via audiobook today. I believe it’s my third time through the book, but I’ve noticed so much more foreshadowing than I remembered. I like the series, but I’m enjoying this “read” a lot more than I expected to!

And yeah, Katniss seems pretty real. Although, I find it hard to believe that she wouldn’t guess that (view spoiler).

Yes, and I think that even when she suspected it, she kinda didn't want it to be true, you know? Sometimes she felt like she needed to consciously convince herself Peeta didn't care for her to keep herself from becoming vulnerable.

Alison | 1641 comments Uh huh. I guess in that sense she's vulnerable in her own way. She's scared to let people in, let them grow close to her. It's interesting, though, how hardened a person can become, that when others show that they care for them, they don't recognize it or are scared to accept it.

For sure. Good observation! I guess it's like when someone you trust does something horrible to you (e.g. Katniss's mother blanking out on everyone) or something horrible happens to someone you love (e.g. Katniss's father dying) and then you're afraid to trust people because if you let them get close, then you might get hurt again.

Rose Herondale-Greenbriar | 302 comments it happens so often in books with a war setting. You've been hurt by people close to you so you don't let anyone else get close..

Celia (cealcrest) | 138 comments Lilyyy wrote: "Yes, and I think that even when she suspected it, she kinda didn't want it to be true, you know? Sometimes she felt like she needed to consciously convince herself Peeta didn't care for her to keep..."

Yeah, that makes more sense to me than her just being completely unaware.

PEETAAA 4EVER!!!!!!!!

Mary Emma Sivils | 638 comments Peeta! He's the best match for Katniss' personality.

Mary-Therese P. | 2967 comments RIGHT???

Peeta is the logical choice. Gale and Katniss are too alike, too angry, too bitter, to make a healthy match.

Rose Herondale-Greenbriar | 302 comments ..........Peeta is stupid.... she should have been with GALE!!!!!!!

I totally thought Katniss ending up with Peeta was strange when I first read the books, but now it's making more sense to me. I mean, did Katniss really actually like Gale? He was just the only guy friend she had before. They were close friends, but only because they had to be. On the other hand, I'm pretty sure Peeta's liked her for, like, ever, right?

Celia (cealcrest) | 138 comments Raini wrote: "Peeta sucks and Gale sucks! NEITHER!"

Now that is a take I hadn't considered 😂

At first I was ticked about her not ending up with Gale, but Peeta has definitely grown on me. Peeta has so much inner quiet. That stability is better for Katniss than Gale's angst because she already has so much inner turmoil. Also, Peeta would never have done what Gale did in book 3, so... Not to skip ahead or anything haha

Same! I really did not like Gale in Mockingjay. But... I also didn't really like Peeta either. I like him better than Gale though, so I'd say he's better for Katniss.
