Angel Bruce | 3 comments I read this book many times as a child in the mid 70s and it was in the children's section of the library. I really believe it was a boy that was following a path laid out on a game board or some odd map. Think there was a map inside the cover of the book.

Angel Bruce | 3 comments Thanks guys - for sure wasn't Jumanji. I looked up Big joke game and that's not it either. It is so frustrating - I can see exactly where the book was located in my mind in the little library but not the title of the book. I wish all those old sign out cards had been automated so we had a history of all the books read as children.

I would have loved to have read a book like this as a kid. Ah well, just added "The Big Joke Game" to my TBR list. :)

Amanda (misterfive) | 215 comments Any chance it might be The Phantom Tollbooth by Norton Juster? While it's not a board game per se that the boy travels through in it, it was a pretty popular book back in the 70s, has a lot of jokes and such in it and does feel game-like in its setup. And it does have a map in the front of the lands the boy travels through.

Railyn (funky-rat) | 243 comments There was a movie in the early 80's that was called "Cloak And Dagger" about a kid who has a vivid imagination and sometimes imagines he's in a game that he plays. I'm sure there was probably a novelization of it, but I'm having no luck locating it. The movie actually has someone rolling dice and the kid is running away from them. Probably not what you're looking for, but figured I'd take a chance.

**Edit: the more I think about it, the running from dice part may be another movie - sorry**
