Hatch Chapters 9-16

This will be our discussion thread for chapters 9-17 of Hatch which is book 2 in the Overthrow Trilogy by Kenneth Oppel.

Howdy, Elizabeth and Storm.

I just finished chapter 9-16 in Hatch last night.

My questions about setting were answered in the later chapters read. The main characters are originally from Vancouver, Canada. And, yes, they were transported to somewhere in the US as it was stated that the US military had no knowledge of their transport to the silo and that when traveling back, some of the children were in Washington State.

This is definitely not a comfort read. However, the children find comfort in doing things together against all odds, healing rifts among them and understanding each other's true motives, thinking of home and parents for those who have them, and finding joy in just being loved as a child rather than having the responsibility of 'saving' the world, being prodded and looked at as specimens.

I finished this section yesterday. I'm glad that at least some of the kids got rescued. I'm curious about Anaya's communication with Terra and how that will play out. I'm also still not sure about Esta and whether Seth's loyalties are misplaced in her.
I think I'm going to be able to finish this in August. If I can read 2 chapters per day, that will do it.
