As someone who loves out of left field stuff, this should be an open goal for me, but let's see. I'm rubbish at writing about stuff, so will just throw a few out there to see if anybody knows them.Väntorel - Väntorel (an Estonian band active c1970/71, who basically got split up by the authorities, as happened. Their manager managed to hold on to the tapes they made, and they finally emerged around 8 years ago IIRC).
Drugi Naćin - Drugi Naćin (staying behind the iron curtain for this band from Croatia. This album is from 1975)
Some albums out of Japan:
Hiroshi Yoshimura - Music For Nine Post Cards
Yasuaki Shimizu - Music For Commercials
Mean Machine - Cream
Nobukazu Takemura - Child's View
Brast Burn - Debon
Karuna Khyal - Alomoni 1985
Omoide Hatoba - Kinsei
And to close some random entries:
Annette Peacock - I'm The One
Lewis - L'Amour
Mike Ladd - Welcome To The Afterfuture
cLOUDDEAD - cLOUDDEAD
David Holland Quartet - Conference Of The Birds
John Surman - Coruscating
John Hassell - Last Night The Moon Came Dropping Its Clothes In The Street
Tony Conrad with Faust - Outside The Dream Syndicate
Beats me Tim - have some stuff with Dave Holland playing and John Surman and Annette peacock i've heard. Is the other stuff any good?

I like it (that might not be a recommendation I understand!)
Nobukazu Takemura - Let My Fish Loose
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LkZ2z...
Aphex Twin did a really creepy remix of this track which is where I first heard it.
Yasuaki Shimizu - 4 pieces from Music For Commercials
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rRJ1B...
These were genuinely composed for use on TV ads
Hiroshi Yoshimura - Clouds
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ri5F2...
Tony Conrad - The Side Of Man And Womankind
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OyXL2...
A true drone classic. You'll either love or loathe it!
Lewis - I Thought The World Of You
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SG4Fe...
This one has an amazing back story. One day in 1983 a man drove up to a recording studio, went in and recorded this album leaving with the tapes, paid for by a cheque which later bounced. The album was privately released and disappeared as these things do. Many years later a copy came to light and Light In The Attic records reissued the album (in the meantime paying off the studio what they were still owed for the sessions), whilst they attempted to track down the elusive Lewis. Eventually they did find him, and offered him the royalties which were being held in an escrow account. He declined to accept them. So the record was deleted once more, there being little alternative. It's a strange and rather eerily beautiful record.
Väntorel - Sa Tulid Tuppahttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=69uaO...
Drugi Naćin - Zuti List
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aqlq5...
This is certainly of its time, but quite interesting to hear what was going on 'over the wall'
ORB - WombNo, not the English electronica band, the Aussie prog/psychedelic rock band. I have a copy of their debut EP from 2014. I m fairly certain no one heard of them on here, bar Spacepig, and definitely sure nobody has got another copy of it here, cos there,s only 50 of them in existence!
SussexWelsh wrote: "I suspect nocheese may well be familiar with that offering Huck"Indeed I am. I own every album they have ever released, including one autographed by Tom Landa, acquired when I went to see them in Peebles of all places. Disgracefully, their Edinburgh gig was cancelled due to lack of interest. Why they weren't booked for Glasgow, where we appreciate good music, is beyond me.,
So here’s my offering. Sam Baker. .

I loved his music before I knew his history.. He was badly injured by a bomb on a train in Peru in 1986, suffering brain damage and damaged eardrums as well as damage to the fingers of his left hand which meant he had to relearn to play his guitar.

Delighted to hear we have a shared appreciation of Paperboys - amazing live experience and Ellenside is top notch set of songs/tunes. Seen them live about 4 times - always magic. Just ordered Sam Baker
Lucky you seeing them 4 times Huck. Maybe they come to Ireland more often? I was so embarrassed for my country when Edinburgh couldn’t muster enough people for a show. It was the venue that cancelled, Tom and co would play to a couple of people and a dog and still give it their all. The Peebles venue was tiny and I had to book an overnight stay to do it, but one of the best nights ever. They should be huge. Sam Baker could hardly be more different, but he’s also great at connecting with his audience. One time I saw him he stood at the door at the end and shook hands wit us all! Going to see him again later this year.

How about you pick a CD you love but suspect nobody else in Exiles has heard or has even heard of. Her..."Yup, I have (as far as I know) all the Paperboys stuff and have seen them 2 or 3 times, usually at the quaint and bijou Kirton Lindsey Town Hall. Great band and overdue a new album and tour. The original fiddler, a lass very much unacquainted with being hit with the ugly stick, also released a couple of cds which I have but almost certainly couldn't lay a hand on in anything like a timely fashion ....... Kendel Carson.

He's touring this autumn, will have to get myself and Blind Col over to either Sheffield or Nott'm;

i saw Paperboys at the Bronte Centre - an old re-purposed Church once preached in by Rev Patrick Bronte (of Bronte sisters fame). Church pews as seats and (nice touch) you could bring your own booze !! Great venue acoustically and max audience of about 100 approx. Yes, Kendal was a good fiddler although i found her solo stuff bit bland compared to the PBs.

Church pews as seats and (nice touch) you could bring your own booz..."The booze situation at Kirton leaves something to be desired. They have a small offshoot at the back of the hall in which there is a large fridge in which one will find bottles of lager, cider, white wine and mixers. The beers, of which there is a good if mainstream selection are arranged on a shelf at room temperature; passable in January but not terribly palatable in August. Good job I'm invariably driving!
Last weekend we schlepped over t'umber Bridge to Newbald Village Hall to see Aussie country outfit, Lachlan Bryan & The Wildes. I was pleasantly surprised to see a large fridge with a range of beers nicely chilled; I was less thrilled when I perused the half-drunk bottle neck to see the legend BBE Dec 21! For my second and last beer I thought I'd best try a different one. This had a BBE date of Jan 22! I came to no harm but neither was I impressed. I saw the guy who puts on the mainly Americana bands at Kirton there who reassured me they'd taken the hit and dumped a load of out of date beers.
Ok, i'll have another go as Paperboys stuff seems well known. US singer songwriter Peter Mulvey visits Ireland regularly and has built up a small but fanatical cult following. While his studio albums are great, the one that really captures the live feel of gigs is "Notes from Elsewhere" - recorded "live" in studio with no overdubs. Featuring his amazing guitar tunings and jaw dropping technical prowess but also his musicality with catchy songs, witty and thoughtful poetic lyrics. Not only that but a lovely guy - i recall he played at our local folk club once and at 1 am on a freezing sunday morning he helped us lug the hired PA equipment out of the club into the back of a van. Also you should check out his incredible Aurora Borealis if you can find it. Hilarious and unique. Anyone heard him?
Tech XXIII wrote: "no."You are in for a treat then Tech. I'll swear that in one of his songs the bass string is loosened so much you can almost see it swinging producing a low note that is almost inaudible ! He also has a technique where he plays bass and lead lines simultaneously, often with lovely funky rhythm and has some memorable lyrics and single lines eg" The trouble with poets is they talk too much" or "It's a forty dollar haircut on a 29 cent head"
I imagine I've got a good few CDs that none of you lot have, being to my far superior taste in music.
My music taste's not THAT bad, cheeky!!! 😝A couple I'm guessing not many/any here own
Paul Sabu "Kidd Glove"
all 4 Silent Rage studio albums
Spacehog "Resident Alien" (bought by D for my Valentines Day 1996)
Jorge Salan "Chronicles Of An Evolution"
Mago de Oz "Gaia Epilogo" (because Jorge Salan used to play for them)
Electric Boys "Funk-O-Metal Carpet Ride"
Alain de Courtenay "The Pregnant Letter" (after hearing Love Anyway live on Youtube
etc etc

Don't have any and have only heard of a few. See silent Rage classified as Glam Heavy Metal - that's an oxymoron in my book and an immediate turn off! Will definitely check out Jorge Salan
Maybe not to everyone's taste, Huck, but I love his version of Thin Lizzy's "Dedication".https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ChHJz...

Got that Spacehog album on vinyl, but not CD.
Since this afternoon's gig at the Hope Tavern and for the princely sum of a fiver, the Dave Ellis Blues Band - Straight Up. Shouldn't imagine for a moment most of you would want it but he was full on, big fan of SRV and Hendrix and a good, very very loud session was enjoyed by the 50 or so present in my favourite venue. Played with a drummer and bassist who had never played with each other before. Sold his cd recorded 7 years ago at the same time as this clip for a mere fiver (which was precisely 500 pence too much eh Tech?).https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wN4Go...

Arrived yesterday and played twice. Good album and nice feel - shades of Kristofferson, Guy Clark and Prine coming through. If you like this i'd recommend Peter Case (try eponymous 1st album or Full Service Now Waiting) - you may also have some John Hiatt or Tom Russell - similar mould at times
not even Tim will have any of these,thenomen.bandcamp.com/merch
Kilmarnock outfit, sample at Bandcamp,

Blind Col had me sort out tickets for Drive By Truckers at Leeds on Thursday, then remembered he had a covid rearranged gig in London by Kingfish (blues). He actually handed me a bag containing all his DBT cds expecting me to pester the merch person to take them to the dressing room to get them signed! My parting words were, "Don't get your hopes up"! I won't even bother to take them out of the car with me.
Interestingly (or maybe not) I went to see Aussie band Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever last week so I went to scout out the merch stall for BC (I have to describe the t shirts especially whether or not they have the dates on the back) and they had all their albums ...... but ONLY on vinyl. Since the t shirts were all white and sans dates and the vinyl was £25 or 30 BC's total purchase was zip.

Well, I think it is but others may have an entirely different view. :-)
Just sprung to mind is I have (somewhere, although not sure exactly where) a CD by a London based Japanese band called Apes, which I was given by a guy who worked at the time in a camera store (this is circa very late 90s or very early noughties), and was friends of the group. Don't think they made any 'real' records. I'll have to try and locate it.
Fairly sure nobody here will have "Song of the Singing Horseman" by Cork man Jimmy McCarthyhttps://www.amazon.co.uk/Song-Singing...
He wrote many great songs recorded by others - e.g. Christy Moore, Mary Black, and then recorded his own versions here with a brilliant group of accompanying musicians. Sadly hard to get but a complete delight.
I have any number of albums by Mary Black (seen her a couple of times too) and Frances Black and also two albums of Christy Moore's so I'm well acquainted with Jimmy MacCarthy's beautiful songs. Speaking of Irish songs/artists, does anyone else have one of my favourites:Emigrant Eyes by Geraldine & Danny Doyle
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Emigrant-Eye...
Only spoiled by the inclusion of one of Eric Bogle's lesser songs "Silly Slang Song".
Bet no one else has ‘The Songs of Sandy Wright’https://open.spotify.com/album/192lva...
He was an Edinburgh based songwriter. This is a double CD, the first being Sandy with his band The Toxic Cowboys, the second a compilation of versions of some of his songs by other artists. Some great songs, my favourites are ‘Shining Star’ and ‘Beads and Feathers’

I'll offer "Road to Ellenside" by a Vancouver outfit called The Paperboys. Heard a track played at a gig interval at Bronte Centre, Rathfriland, N.I. years back to promote an upcoming concert. Went to gig and was blown away by their energetic mix of bluegrass, celtic, mexican and soulful west coast americana. I recall they did a version of Dylan's All Along the Watchtower with an irish reel in the middle and at the end. Tom Landa, the lead singer and main writer has a great voice and plays some indigenous mexican string instruments. They had flute/whistle player, fiddler, drummer and a guy who played either double bass or banjo. The album is an amazing hybrid hotchpotch that really works.
