"No, all of you! Run!" She screamed, sending blasts of magic at the sorcerer as he did the same in return. It was obvious Anira was going to lose, but she had to make sure they got away safely. She had to protect the staff, save the kingdom. "I order you to run!"

"Yeah well you can shove your order where the sun don't shine." One guard shouted as he swung for the sorcerers leg, but he was batted away. They were the royal guards, they would not leave her behind. Theron swung his sword at the sorcerer, narrowly avoiding a blast. The sword missed, but only by a tiny distance. Theron tried again, this time cutting the sorcerer just a little.
"You cannot harm him, he has magic! You're priority is the staff, go! Keep it from him!" She screamed, getting weaker with each blast of magic that hit her. The sorcerer finally noticed that the staff was missing from Anira's waist and swore. "What did you do with it, girl?! You bitch, you tricked me!"
"I'm not leaving you." Theron said as he swung again, this time the sorcerer paid attention to him and hit him and all his men around him with a weak lighning, dazing them and putting them out of the fight. They couldn't run, they couldn't fight. They were stuck.
"The staff is gone!" Anira screamed at the sorcerer. "The staff is gone and your amulet is broken. I have won!" She kept screaming, distracting the sorcerer, praying some of the men would be able to run. He grabbed her by the throat, a growl echoing from his throat. "I will find it! I will destroy this world once more... Starting with you!"
Theron rose to his feet, recovering quickly. He was not going to be put down that easily. He ran forwards with all of his momentum and tackled he sorcerer, who had not seen him coming. He threw the sorcerer to the ground with him, giving the princess time to escape.
Instead of running, Anira took her sword and ran it through the sorcerer. That wouldn't kill him, only extremely strong magic could kill the sorcerer, but it weakened him enough the he needed to go heal. The sorcerer disappeared in another puff of smoke, which faded to reveal the smirking Anira- who promptly fell unconscious.
Theron lay unconscious on the ground, the battle had taken everything from him, as he lay nightmares came to him of the final battles before the end of the Kingdom. Watching the King die while he was near him, seeing his friends slaughtered, watching a pillar of fire hit his brothers in arms and burning them all to death.{{Now what? They're both knocked out xD}}
((The rest of the guard being them back to their camp or whatever... I guess.))When Anira woke again, she had a cool cloth on her forehead and bandages covering her skin. She groaned and shifted, laying on a makeshift hammock a few feet above the ground. Chatter came from near her, along with the crackling of a fire.
Theron heard a disturbance near him and opened his eyes, turning his head to her. He was sitting on a seat on the ground, he was bruised and looked like he had been to the wars, but he was alive. "Rise and shine." He grumbled, rubbing his head
"Where are we?" Anira asked, immediately standing. She looked like a complete mess, and was in quite a bit of pain, but that didn't stop her from being on her toes and standing guard. She looked around the camp, tense with caution.
Theron pushed her lightly back into the hammock. "Take is easy my lady." He said to her, sighing as he did. "You're at the last of the Kings Guards humble abode." He said to her, looking at the walls of the shack. There were shields, uniforms and swords on display, showing their affiliations.{{She doesn't actually know he's kings guard does she? Just that he followed the letter? I can't remember >_<}}
"King's Guard...?" Anira shrugged away from the book and walked over to a cracked shield on the wall, the shield of her father. Tears filled her eyes at the sight of it, and she reached out to brush her fingers against it. "They said this... This was missing."
"All of us around you, we were there in the battle. Fighting by the Kings side, trying our best to keep him alive. But in the end, it wasn't enough. We failed in our task and were forced into a retreat. Many were killed with arrows in the back, others managed to get away when the king sounded the retreat, we were extremely lucky to get away when we did." He said, that was the rundown of it but he wasn't telling everything. Yet.
"I know what happened during the battle!" Anira snapped, even more irritable now that she was so close to tears. Her father's shield, the last thing of his that survived the war, and she had found it. Locked away here, with the rest of the men who were there that day.
"You weren't there, you know nothing." He replied angrily, he didn't feel she appreciated the sacrifices his men had made to keep the King alive, and it was for nothing. "I told you not to touch the damn staff, is it coincidence he came as you did?" He continued, clear that he was angry with her.
"It is. The staff had nothing to do with him finding me. He has been tracking me with a bloodstone amulet- I assumed I would be able to get the staff and go, and destroy it, before he was able to determine my true location. It was thanks to you that he found me. Luckily, I managed to destroy the amulet, which mean we have a few days before he recovers health and tries to find us again." She whirled around and glared at the man as she spoke, fire in her eyes.
"Yeah. Sure it is. Our fault that as you pick up the damn staff he attacks us, hell, for all I know you could be working with him, putting up a screen of smoke so we won't realise. Well I'm not letting you touch that damn staff again and I don't care who you are." He said angrily, staring at her with cold eyes. "That staff is going nowhere anymore, I, as a Kings Guard, shall dispose of the sword myself. I do not care if you are a princess or if the Queen gave you orders." He said
"How dare you?!" Anira shouted, her frustrated tears returning. "How dare you accuse me of working for that... Monster! For all I know, you could just be keeping the staff until he regains health! It's not the first time soldiers have deserted. And who would expect otherwise with you?! Hoarding something that was stolen from the palace, never reporting for duty after the first apocalypse!" Anira took a step closer to the man, her eyes glistening in the fire light and her fists clenched.
Theron looked at her angrily. "How dare you accuse us of deserting... Maybe, just maybe if you got off your royal ass and saw what happened in that battle you'd have known what we faced, how many men were killed. Why? To save your sorry ass? Well it sure as hell wasn't worth it if this is the treatment we get now. I never stole anything, that shield represents the guard, and the men around you are some of the last, it rightfully belongs to us. What did you ever do against the monsters? Cry a little infront of the sorcerer and shout at him?"
"As far as I am concerned, you no longer bear the right to be called the King's Guard. Where were you after the war? When anyone at the palace who had survived tried to make camp in the ruins, while I had to figure out what we were going to do. Where were you when my missing mother finally returned and was shot through the head with and arrow? Where were you when our small camp was burnt to the ground and everyone within it was taken prisoner?" She took a step forward and continued in a low, shaking voice. "Where were you when every single girl, including me, were used and tortured, while the men were just killed?! Where were you, 'Kings Guards'?!"
He snapped, raising his voice so those outside could hear him. "I was trying to save lives!" He shouted angrily before breathing in deeply. "There were villages other than your god forsaken palace, while you tended for the rich, those who already had an army we tried saving the poor. Those hit worst, those on the outskirts. Those who had suffered more than you ever will even before the apocalypse. We rounded up those who were alive and we fled towards the cities. When we got there it was already too late. We are not deserters, we just saved the people who deserved to live." He said harshly.
"Deserved to live?! Yes, I forgot that the people in villages, with their own guards, were unable to loose a single of the King's Guard to protect what was left of the King's people!" Anira was shaking now, looking as if she might punch the man in front of her. "All we needed was one guard! That's it! I don't care if you couldn't have saved me, but so many people died because apparently, our amounts of money was supposed to rebuild a castle in a month, who cares about workers!" Anira paused to let out a shaky breath, wiping tears from her eyes. "There was an eleven year old girl there. Eleven years old! And I had to watch her be violated and killed- I couldn't do anything!"
"The people out there. They didn't have any guards. You at the palace? You still had the city watch, you had the cavalry you had everyone that wasn't in the battle. The people don't have any guards at the villages. They needed us. There are horrors in this world that we can't unsee, and I made my choice to go help those that didn't have anyone else. It'd probably taken to long to get to you anyway." He said, a wave of guilt beginning to wash over him, guilt about being so harsh, he knew he made the right decision all that time ago. "I'm sorry..." He whispered quietly.
Anira didn't hear his apology, for she began speaking the second he stopped. "We had no one! Everyone who could fight went out to battle- and no one came back. The castle was in ruins, we had to built hits out of the crumbling stone. Horrors that you can't unsee?! The horrors that I've seen, have marked me. Literally." Glaring at the man, Anira pulled off her vest and turned around. She was wearing was used to be the top a dress with a very low back, revealing scar upon scar of being whipped.
He left half way through her sentence, making his way towards the exit. He tried apologising but she wouldn't have it. She would never understand what they went through, he didn't care what horrors she thought were worse than his, because he could pretty much guarantee his were worse. Burning villages, slaughtered families. They had to have men at the city, the King wouldn't have gambled it all on the castle, he knew he would need troops at the city to keep them safe. He walked towards the exit but never walked out. Instead he just stood there, looking outside. "Just... Shut up." He said simply
Anira grabbed the staff, pulling it out of the hands of a startled man, and pushed past the man, most likely the leader of them all. She stood in front of him as she talked, forgetting her scars were still visible. "One man. That's all that we needed, one man to guard us. One man to protect the children. My mother would have dismissed all but one of you, sending the rest to help others in need. One man!" With that last shouting, she began to run.

((Oh. Take out her taking the staff and replace it with her going to look for it. I'm to lazy to change it.))
Theron walked after her, the men had made sure that the staff was hidden where she couldn't find it. They were pretty damn good at hiding items. "You're not going to find it." He said, chasing her.{{I'll make the next one longer again, I wasn't sure what exactly I was replying to xD}}
"I found it on the hill, I'll find it again." Anira growled, not bothering to put on her vest. She stuffed it into her side bag, summoning a bit of power into her hands. Hopefully she could use it to track down the staff.
She grabbed onto her hand, not violently but more... Caring. "Stay, just leave it for now. We can worry about that later." He said to her, his voice showing concern for her. They had both been in a large fight and needed to rest in his opinion. She said it herself, they have a few days without the sorcerer, and it's no use travelling unless they're at full health or the quest would surely fail.
"No! No, the staff needs to be destroyed, immediately!" Anira cried, her strong and commanding stature crumbling to bits. She let out a shaky breath, her hand almost shaking. Reliving all those memories was torture for her.
"We can't leave while we are all injured and tired out, that's just asking to be killed. We can defend the staff at full strength but not as we are right now, we need to rest here for atleast a day." He told her
"I can't just sit around knowing we could be closer to destroying it!" Anira whispered, pulling on her vest and turning to walk away, heading back to the small room. She kept messing with the locket, the vial, fiddling with whatever she could find.
"I am not letting you go off with the staff until you have atleast rested. You know that that's a stupid idea and you're a fool if you think it's a good one." He said determined to make her see sense
