Felina | 648 comments Now I could get down with jalapeño jelly and a peanut butter burger. I love jalapeño jelly!

message 54: by Steven (new)

Steven (tbones) | 93 comments Alia- Hope you get to check out that town. If you are going to stay in that town during October, you may have to make reservations well in advance, and definitely try to check it out when they have their Halloween parade.

Jeffery- It definitely must be a Washington thing. It's weird but, with the peanut butter on the burger, it kind of takes a bit of the heat out of the jalapeños but you still get that jalapeño flavor in there. Oh and I don't recommend lettuce or tomato on that type of burger cause it's too much on there that can take the other flavors away. Also, just curious Jeffery, have you ever had the opportunity to attend Crypticon in the SeaTac area yet?

Felina- Jalapeño Jelly is the bomb! I think it's just like Frank's Hot Sauce...you can put that shit on everything :0)

I've never heard of the Crypticon. What is that?

Indeed. Jalapenos are probably my co-favorite with habaneros. But jalapenos are great for snacking on too, so maybe they beat out habaneros? I'm going to be grilling some jalapenos tonight with a tri-tip.

Alia (alialg) | 240 comments @Steven: I imagine it gets packed! I would love to see that Halloween parade :D

message 58: by Steven (new)

Steven (tbones) | 93 comments Jeffrey- Crypticon is a horror/sci-fi/fantasy/ convention at the Doubletree Hotel across from the airport up in SeaTac. Here's a link. However, this year's has past, they do it around the same time every year, and it's awesome! They have celebrities, authors, artists, vendors, classes, panels, and show movies. They also bring in the Anubus Hearse Club. I highly recommend it. It's so much fun and it's got a kind of relaxed, just hanging out with fans kind of feel. Event the celebrities we've met there seem to be so relaxed and sincerely love chatting with their fans.

https://crypticonseattle.com/

Alia- Also check the Halloween Town site to keep up on what or who each year is bringing to their party. We've met a few celebrities at that event as well.

ooh I live pretty close to you then. I'm on the Oregon side of the state border, but I'm pretty close to Portland, Seattle, and Astoria :)

message 64: by Alia (new)

Alia (alialg) | 240 comments @Steven: yey! drinking parties! hahaha

@Ian: Now I want to know about your house! hahahaha Cant help it, love Halloween :D

message 65: by Steven (new)

Steven (tbones) | 93 comments Ian, you would love that town! It's rich in some spooky history too, and that big beautiful Jack-o-lantern in the center of the court house square is a site to behold. Quite a few years back, my family and I were zombies in their Zombie Run Marathon and their parade. The place is just special and fun.

Shawna, going by your location, and being in a book group, you must have visited a Powells Books by now? Being a fan of titles that are in this group, you may also enjoy Crypticon. We also have a fantastic drive-in movie/Halloween themed attraction at the Clark County Fair Grounds, in October, on this site of the border you may want to check out.

message 66: by Steven (new)

Steven (tbones) | 93 comments Alia,
My house, when the lawn isn't way too tall, as it is now (zombies could be hiding in it and I wouldn't know until they bit me), does get decked out for Halloween and we have a dead guy crawling out of a grave on our property all year round :0) I do know of some amazing decorated houses in the Portland to Seattle area and can send you a list. The two I can tell you to check out, without a doubt are Davis Graveyard and Pumpkin Acres. There are some amazing haunt houses out there.

I live near the famous Sleepy Hollow and have been in the actual church the story talks about and heard The Legend of Sleepy Hollow on Halloween. The area has an amazing pumpkin festival.

message 70: by Alia (new)

Alia (alialg) | 240 comments I have Halloween-envy :D
It figures being in this group that Halloween and Día de Muertos are my favorite holidays.

That sounds awesome @Steven :D But the thing about your lawn... you cant fool me, it suits you for when you are being a zombie :P

I looked some photos of both places and look so fun!

@Papaphilly: Sleepy Hollow on Halloween must be something else too :O

message 71: by Steven (new)

Steven (tbones) | 93 comments Wow! Sleepy Hollow sounds like a fun place too. With a name and history like that, I'm not surprised they try to market on that too. My wife and I were big fans of the show that was out a while back...that they canceled :0(

Alia, yep gotta have a lawn that makes sense in a zombie apocalypse. My wife had quite the conversation with Robert Kirkman at a comic signing a few years back, about all the mowed lawns in the Walking Dead...apparently he's not happy about that part either :0)

message 72: by Alia (new)

Alia (alialg) | 240 comments @Steven: hahahaha, that is very true, maybe we are supposed to think that after some brain bites, they mow the lawn like an automated thing to chill out.

So did I. I didn't watch the entire series, I'm not sure if the show got a proper ending or not.

Oh yeah, very big on horses around here! They have their own traffic lights!"

I lived down in Lancaster for a while, and I remember being amazed that they had tying posts at Walmart / grocery stores / etc.
It's such a beautiful, laid-back area - I definitely miss it. Covered bridges and Amish farms 5 minutes in one direction - malls and shopping centers in the other. Such a different world from anywhere else I have been.

I actually know the area a bit. You are only a few miles from Katy. I spent time there after Hurricane Harvey.
