Let us know the most recent book you finished and why you read it?

Bill Hsu (billhsu) | 289 comments Percival Everett, I Am Not Sidney Poitier. I love Everett's work. Spotted a used copy at a usually uninspiring bookstore, there.

The last one I finished was The Book of Form and Emptiness, which also completes my prize list reading, at least until Booker longlist time (I was very tempted by the Desmond Elliot list, but my book budget couldn't stand that many new expensive books).

I have plenty of other books on the to read pile, and my reasons for choosing one of those are sometimes deliberately going for the one that has waited longest, and some have been there about a year now.

Everett is on my I’ve-Yet-To-Read-That-author-But-Want-To list.

I don’t think I could distinguish which of my unread books has waited the longest to be read but that would be an interesting challenge.

Just finished McGlue late last night. Read it because I like Moshfegh, it was her oldest work that I had yet to read, and was one I bought during my pandemic book buying spree. (I decided I needed to cram it in there in between the other 5 books I had already started).

James | 75 comments I just finished The Promise by Damon Galgut, probably for the obvious reason that it won the Booker. I probably wouldn't have read it otherwise especially as it centres around 4 funerals - unless perhaps I came across recommendations from within this group.

Our library has a section of prize winners and there it was - so I had nothing to lose. Glad I read it but without the prize win I still probably would not have chosen it.
