Failing to combine... please help

I don't know if this is the place to ask for help, but I've been trying to combine a translated edition to it's original work for the past 15 minutes and I'm failing. I never combined anything before and I can't wrap my head around the process, so please someone explain to me how to combine editions for the future.

the book in question is the Arabic translation of The Early Cases of Akechi Kogoro:

I've combined them.

The easiest way when you're having problems is to use the work ids at the top of the combine page.

The examples are very clear in the link on the right hand side ~ what is a work id?

Having said that, the combine page can be buggy, and sometimes I've had to wait up to an hour for a simple combine to go through. The last time that happened was the other day. Very frustrating :)
