Finished, man that ending did not disappoint! Loved every moment of this one. 5 stars easy!!! I also have to agree with the peeps that have said they liked this more than Dracula. I know, it feels wrong to say that out loud, but it's the truth!

This one reads pretty quickly Terry! It's long but it's easy to zoom through if you have a little time. Can't wait to hear what you think!

I finished the book too during the night! Five stars all the way! I loved this book and just like everyone else has said on here - it beats Dracula as a favorite! There was just more things happening within this book and I found that the story was just seeped with suspenseful horror.
A lot of the book just gave you a dread feeling that you knew something was going to happen but you didn't really know what was headed your way. Awesome book!

You all are so nice - you make my reading more enjoyable even when I'm not getting to read much! Thanks for the cheers.

I do think this was better than Dracula which I do really love. But this had the same atmosphere but I think was a little more coherent. Classics tend to get watered down with the word count.

At 68% All of the scenes are so vividly written, it is like a movie in my mind and indeed I would love this made into one, it is so full of great moments. (view spoiler)

I finished and it's a big 5 stars, I feel like it even beat The Historian as my favorite vampire book now. Thanks for such a grear group read pick, I don't think I would've read this anytime soon by myself.
Well, I'm not sure when I'll finish this book now. We got a six month old puppy yesterday and my book reading days have just plummeted! :DSeriously glad to see everyone is loving this and can't wait to get back to it tonight....maybe. hahaha

Thanks Sally and Terry! So excited about the little (soon to be huge) guy.
He's so sweet and super good natured which is awesome.
The friend (in the Army) who we got him from is being moved again and he thought those days were over for him. He can't take the dog since it's overseas I guess.
We planned on getting a dog in a year but not this quick. Oh well, the pup seems pretty awesome. Needs lots of work on commands and potty training though. o.O
His name is Charlie and he's a mix of Bernese Mountain Dog and Golden Retriever which are two of my favorites. So it's pretty damn cool to finally have a dog like this. His feet are massive though. OMG! hahaha!!

Awwww...... love puppies! I bet he is gorgeous too! :) Good luck with potty training and commands. With him being young it might take a little time but he will learn quick. :)

Dang!! This one was AWESOME and I agree with all the comments on it. I loved how (view spoiler)This book has creepy moments that are fantastic. I loved this book more then Dracula and I think it's just because it's written with better pacing, less repetition of situations that I found in that classic but has all the gothic flavor in it that I love so much in books like this.
It's really fantastic from the beginning to the end and I need to get back to J.D. Barker's other series that he's written. He's really a fantastic writer!!
Thanks Sally and Marie for choosing this one! I've always wanted to read it and you guys finally put a light under my ass to get it done. It was a fantastic choice for a buddy read. :D
Marie wrote: "Awwww...... love puppies! I bet he is gorgeous too! :) Good luck with potty training and commands. He's just going to take time with all the commands and potty training. Lots of patience and love.
We finally figured out what Charlie's kryptonite is and it's cheese. He loves the stuff and responds really well to positive reinforcement and commands.
I mean, it makes sense though. I love cheese too! hahaha
I finished this today. I definitely agree that it was great and easily as good as the original, if not better.

Thanks, everyone! It was an excellent choice, and I’m glad I jumped in for it.I don’t know if everyone one read it, but I really enjoyed the author’s notes on this one too. I really wonder if the notes paint an accurate picture about Bram and what he really thought. I also found it interesting that the original story did not include vampires not being able to come out in the daylight. They could only they lost all of their powers. Very interesting thoughts.
