Claudia, I added a few plot details to the header/ topic title. Feel free to edit it.
Is this a medieval-type fantasy? What are the fantasy elements?
Is this a medieval-type fantasy? What are the fantasy elements?

It begins with a successful coup of the land's royal family and all the nobles, for a good cause according to the main character (I think he was a high-ranking member of the military). After they round up all the nobles and start executing them, one of them (the king or prince maybe?) warns the main character that when the kingdom/country/world was first created, their god anointed the first king, and made a promise that if his family was ever deposed, the god would destroy the entire kingdom/country/world. The main character doesn't believe him, and the king is executed.
All I remember about the rest of the book is that the main character gets a nagging suspicion that the king may have been telling the truth, and not just trying to save his own skin, and investigates. He somehow finds out that it is true, and then goes about trying to stop this vengeful god.
I do remember a scene where he visits an inn/restaurant, and there's this eccentric cook in the kitchen, who, without entirely realizing it, would make food magically appear in pots and pans that were previously empty. The main character deduces that the cook is also a god, and the cook admits that he is, but is too minor a god to stop the destruction that is coming. I vaguely remember the cook referring the the vengeful god as, "Daddy," like a child, if that helps.
