I need help finding the name of a book

I’m trying to find a book about kids who get sent on a boat to a house/orphanage we’re their treated like slaves until 2 of them run away on a horse and travelled a far way till they came across people who took the to a lady who helped them and she had a wombat that lived under her porch. Would really love the name of this book thank you in advance
