They are coming mighty fast.

I am reading a biography, which isn't sci-fi or fantasy, but it by its by Felicia Day, and I don't hate which is how I typically feel about biographies. You're Never Weird on the Internet

message 761: by Barb (new)

Barb (barbtrek) | 24 comments I am listening to The Golem and the Jinni and reading The Lies of Locke Lamora. I just discovered that they are both the debut book from their respective authors. Pretty impressive as I'm really enjoying them both!

message 762: by Papaphilly (new)

Papaphilly I am now reading Flashback and I cannot put it down.

message 763: by Victoria (new)

Victoria Osborne | 4 comments I am currently reading Gardens of the Moon (The Malazan Book of the Fallen, #1) by Steven Erikson I finished the black prism today along with the stand. I think I am on page four. I am unfamiliar with this author but he has a log of great big fat books in his series so I am going to give it a try.

If you struggle with it (and I think most first time readers do) you may wish to check out the Malazan Fallen group. We did a detailed group read a few years ago and there are chapter by chapter discussions with any possible spoilers inside tags.

Papaphilly Don wrote: "Papaphilly, I'm giving "flashback" a try on your short and sweet recommendation."

I am enjoying it very much.

message 769: by Kim (new)

Kim | 1499 comments Currently reading Seven Wonders. It's an ok superhero book. I prefer his first book Empire State so far.

message 770: by Mathew (new)

Mathew Babaoye | 11 comments Almost finished with Cuckoo Song, by Frances Hodges. Really great book, but not what I was expecting. Probably won't finish it until weeks end, however. Lots of promotion to do for my recently released novel, Ubermensch, along with updating the blog, etc.

Next on the list... perhaps a fantasy novel. It's been too long since I followed the exploits of a young farm boy on a quest.

- Mathew Babaoye

message 771: by Ryan (new)

Ryan I started Zelazny's Lord of Light today. It's out there.

message 772: by Sumant (new)

Sumant Here is my review of 2nd book in Thomas covenant series. This book sucked big time.

message 773: by Random (last edited Oct 07, 2015 10:06AM) (new)

Random | 7 comments Currently reading The Broken Eye. I've never read the Night Angel trilogy but if it's as good as the Lightbringer series is I may just give it a go.

Aaron Nagy | 510 comments Sumant wrote: "Here is my review of 2nd book in Thomas covenant series. This book sucked big time."

"sucked big time" 3/5 - Sumant

So it sucked but you still liked it?

message 775: by Kim (new)

Kim | 1499 comments I'm reading Red Rising at the moment. Very cliche, YA, dystopian, that's currently in fashion.

message 776: by Ryan (new)

Ryan Simplistic politics with a victim narrative we can all get on board with. What's not to like about YA Dystopian?

message 777: by Julia (new)

Julia | 957 comments I finished Karen Memory, which I liked a lot a few days ago, Fun Home: A Family Tragicomic, which I only discovered I was rereading it, when I came here. I also re-listened to World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War the complete audio book.

Currently rereading Between the World and Me for my real life book club.

message 778: by Phrynne (new)

Phrynne Working my way through the Iron Druid Chronicles and just finished #2 Hexed
My review

message 779: by Sumant (new)

Sumant @Aaron I was tempted to give it 2 stars but as I am going complete the last book in first chronicles trilogy that's why I bumped it up to 3.

message 780: by Louise (new)

Louise Tebbutt | 32 comments Currently reading The Child Thief for my real life book group. It's OK so far, but not fantastic.

message 781: by Kelly (new)

Kelly (liying) Six of crows by Leigh Bardugo

message 782: by Julia (new)

Julia | 957 comments I finished the non-fiction and loved -- all over again, because it's a reread for me Between the World and Me by Ta-Nehisi Coates.

Next up The Girl with All the Gifts by M.R. Carey.

message 783: by MadProfessah (new)

MadProfessah (madprofesssah) | 775 comments @aaron I have read both of Brent Weeks' series
and I would say that Lightbringer is better (although the Night Angel trilogy is VERY good), it's at the very top of ALL epic fantasy as far as I'm concerned, and he has sustained it through three books with a fourth on the way.

I am on the verge of giving up on Use of Weapons by Iain Banks (about 50% in) and have started the third book in Jo Walton's Small Change trilogy about what would happen if Britain didn't go to war with Germany.

Id like to finish the Banks novel but with it between me and Leckie's Ancillary Mercy I need some kind of assurance it gets more interesting or there's a big pay off at the end.

I'm interested in Diziet Sma's story but not Zakalwe's so much.

message 784: by Beachesnbooks (new)

Beachesnbooks Just started The Shadow of the Wind, which is really entrancing so far. Also started Six of Crows; didn't like the author's last series, but I'm hearing this one is better and the premise sounds cool.

message 785: by Miquel (new)

Miquel Reina (miquelreina) | 3 comments Jaleenajo I loved The Shadow of The Wind, hope you love it too!!

As far as I remember the style doesn't change much and we don't find out all that much about Sma but there are major reveals at the end, no spoilers here of course. I'd vote for finishing it eventually but not making it a priority.

message 788: by Don (new)

Don Dunham runs out door to buy "ancillary mercy"....

message 789: by Don (new)

Don Dunham Julia, "Karen Memory" should be renamed "Karen Memory, a love story". too much mush

message 790: by Don (new)

Don Dunham just finished "a knight of the seven kingdoms" by GRRM. any trip he takes to Westeros, I'm in.

message 791: by Don (new)

Don Dunham Karen Memory was too much romance for me but many like that kind of thing

message 792: by Kim (new)

Kim | 1499 comments Finally reading Elantris. For some reason I've never picked it up before.

message 793: by Sumant (new)

Sumant Here is my review of 1st book in live ship trilogy. Simply loved this book!.

message 794: by Maarit (last edited Oct 11, 2015 06:27AM) (new)

Maarit | 136 comments I started to read Taru Sormusten herrasta Tolkienin silmin (The Art of The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien). It's a very new book, I picked it up from the library I work immediately after it came there and was registered to the system :P. Haven't started any other books for a while, simply because I'm too busy with everything right now and can't even finish the old ones.

Edit Oct 11: Well, I take back what I said in the end of my original message yesterday. I started to read Uhka avaruudesta (Rendezvous with Rama) by Arthur C. Clarke about an hour ago and I'm already on page 80. So clearly I'm not busy enough with everything :D.

message 795: by Andreas (new)

Andreas | 164 comments Finished Dozois's 32nd Best of SF anthology. Here is my review.

message 796: by Rob (new)

Rob (robzak) | 876 comments I finished listening to River of Blue Fire. I didn't enjoy it as much as the first book, but I definitely plan to continue the series at some point soon. (My Review)

I also listened to Shadows of Self. I thought it was good, but not great. (My Review)

My progress in text continues to be slow, but I did read Saga, Volume 5 and wrote up a few words, but really there isn't much to be said about Saga at this point apart from that it's excellent and you should read it. (My Review)

message 797: by Christopher (new)

Christopher Taylor (christophertaylor) Currently reading Realm Hunter: Pursuit of the Silver Dirk by Bob Greenwade, a kind of sci fi/fantasy crossover with world and dimension hopping.

message 798: by Adeline (new)

Adeline | 88 comments Halfway through Empire Ascendant by Kameron Hurley. I think it's about to get a lot darker.

Also reading The Humans by Matt Haig and The Book of the Unnamed Midwife by Meg Elison. The latter won the Philip K. Dick award this year and reminds me a bit of The Handmaid's Tale.

message 799: by Sumant (new)

Sumant Here is my review of 1st book in huge discworld series.

message 800: by Aaron (new)

Aaron Nagy | 510 comments Read The Aeronaut's Windlass, strongest opening Butcher book, 4/5 and a very strong 4 at that, I expect many 5s from this series. I guess my main problem was I never really felt the action rise, and it's very much the first book in a series where it reads more like a prologue to a longer series then a single entry.

Almost done with Shadows of Self, it's not as good as Alloy of Law it's still solid, I'm probably leaning on very weak 4/5 right now. That being said it's still quite good but a bit of a disappointment considering how much I liked Alloy of Law.

Just grabbed Raising Caine, if it's anything like the last two it should be great, in a weird sci-fi written in the 50s-60s but it's actually brand new kind of way.

Still blitzing through random webnovels, I guess I'll give a shoutout to Mother of Learning https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...

Groundhogs day(err month) but in stereotypical fantasy land is pretty cool.
