This worked for me. In the last book we had the woman who was suffering from Alzheimers but remembering her past during the war. Most of it was told in flashbacks of memories. With Alyssa and Molly reading Rose's book, it felt more like it was taking place in the present (even though it happened during the war). I actually liked this story better.
You forgot Savannah telling Ken about the grandmother. I loved how inventive Brockmann was in the telling of Rose's story. I thought it was a little fragmented at first until I understood that they were each relating a piece of a cohesive story.

Rose’s story is told rather creatively…one segment as she’s recording her book, another when Alyssa is reading the book and yet another when Molly and Jones read the book, too. How well did this work in you getting a sense of the woman? Did the transitions work or was it too fragmented?
