It's about a young man named Logan from a sleepy village who is recruited into his kingdom's Imperial Army. He is then picked to go on a quest to find the secret to eternal life for a whining, self-absorbed King. In the process, he encounters Aurora, a childhood friend, who accompanies him on his journey, and the narrating point of view shifts between their two perspectives as they discover more about themselves, each other, and what it means to grow up.
Although there are plenty of fantasy elements, it leans more towards more coming-of-age and character study rather than traditional fantasy. Hopefully, it doesn't take itself too seriously, either. =) If you were a fan of 1980s fantasy and sci-fi movies, you'll find a few nods to them in the book's pages, too.
