This thread is for anyone interested in a buddy read. Just post on here what book you want to read and the dates your interested in starting. Hopefully, someone will join you. If you do start a buddy read, it's up to the participants to create the thread for it. Mods don't do that for you.

Just make it in the proper genre folder and you will be set. For example if the buddy read is for a horror book then create the thread in the horror folder - if the book is fantasy then create the thread in the fantasy folder, etc. That way the buddy reads will be organized in that genre.

If you need help creating it, feel free to ask us for help. Thank you and have fun.

I have a few books by Strand that I need to step into so this will be fun. One of his books I read was Sick House and that book was really good. My first introduction to his work and what a ride that turned out to be. :)

Khara (khara-diane) I've never read The Odds, so I'd be down. :)

No worries Chris. We will let you know when we set it up. As far as instructions - it is easy peasy. When we set up the buddy read thread for the book you just come over to chat on the thread about the book as you are reading it with everyone.

During the chat though we also use spoilers so that other members that are reading the book won't see certain things in the book discussion that would spoil for them while reading.

Here is the code to use a spoiler: < spoiler>...< / spoiler >

I fixed it like that so you can see what the code looks like - where you see the dots just take those out and insert what you want to say about certain parts of the book that you find intriguing or interesting. Then take out all the spaces as the spoiler code really runs all together with no spaces.

This is what the spoiler will look like after you do it: (view spoiler).

Hope that helps. :)

Awesome Chris! Glad you'll be joining us. We'll let you know when we decide on date. And as far as instructions, you just read at your own pace, pop into the thread and share your thoughts when you feel like it. We use spoiler tags so we don't ruin the story for people who aren't as far along. The instructions for typing spoilers are in the (some html is ok) tab above the comment box.

Also some HTML helpful stiff is on the right side of the comment box that says " (some html is ok)" if you click on it it gives you a lot of the basic commands :)

Us mods have been discussing doing a buddy read for two fantasy series.

The first series is this one which is kind of lengthy with 17 books in the series. A Quest of Heroes (The Sorcerer's Ring, #1) by Morgan Rice A Quest of Heroes by Morgan Rice

The second series is this one which I have learned will also be kind of lengthy at some point with maybe 12 books in the series.
Assassin (Darkblade, #1) by Andy Peloquin Assassin by Andy Peloquin

So if anyone would like to join us on both of these series just let us know and we will schedule them. We will set up a series folder for each one to make it easy for everyone. :)

Felina | 648 comments I'm thinking of doing a re-read of The Fisherman by John Langan. This is Lovecraftian and the atmosphere is so heavy. Anybody interested? I'm thinking sometime in May.

I would like that Felina. I've never read it and it's on my TBR. Maybe late May if that's ok? I've got a couple of reads set up in early May already.

message 21: by Felina (new)

Felina | 648 comments Sounds good to me. I own the audiobook so I'm ready to go when you're ready.

The Red Knight series has some impressive reviews, even from Gwynne and his sons! First time I hear about it too, when are you reading it?

Caleb CW | 275 comments I've got a couple books I'm reading now before special collections closes for the summer then I'll probably hop in Kasia. I read the first book in that series already so I'm on The Fell Sword.

Yes to The Last Kingdom series! I've got them on my bookshelf and have been wanting to get to them.😊 And just to be clear, you're talking about the series by Bernard Cornwell, right?😏

Kevin | 217 comments CalebCW wrote: "I'd like to read The Last Kingdom series or The Red Knight series would anyone be interested in joinin'?"

I'd be interested in either one depending on when you start.

message 35: by Caleb (new)

Caleb CW | 275 comments Hey Vickie! yes the Bernard Cornwell series, I loved his Grail Quest series and the show was incredible so I'd love to hop into it sometime soon.

message 36: by Caleb (new)

Caleb CW | 275 comments Kevin, I think we're gonna end up doing The Red Knight (traitor son) series first. I'll be starting back up with The Fell Sword when we start up because I already read through the Red Knight.

Sounds like a plan! Now i have some shopping to do. I just spent a bunch at the local bookseller. (Talking Leaves...shameless plug for a local place) Time to head over again.

message 40: by Felina (new)

Felina | 648 comments I'd be interested in either of those reads as long as I can secure an audio.

Felina | 648 comments In August I’m thinking of reading The Passage trilogy by Justin Cronin starting with The Passage. Is anybody interested? Maybe do one a month for three months?

I read the first two and gave them both 5 stars and then had to wait for the third and never got to it. It’s been long enough that I need a refresher for the first two before I do the last one.

message 44: by Felina (new)

Felina | 648 comments Cool Ian! August works for you?

Krystal, for sure stalk the thread and then join us in a October for the third one.

Mods, do I set up the buddy read thread or do you?

Just stick it in horror, Sally as it looks like the book has been shelved more in the horror genre. :)

message 47: by Felina (new)

Felina | 648 comments Yeah, horror. But it's for the whole series and will go from August to October.

message 48: by Felina (new)
