Sixty (sixtyone) | 311 comments @Deanna Into the Black looks really interesting, I am going to check it out!

@Sara The Child Thief I had read another book by Brom and really enjoyed it, so I bought a few more by him, this being one of them, so I will be sure to get to it for this challenge!

Sarah (sarahjh26) | 629 comments I'm cleaning an obscene amount so as to finish this audiobook before tomorrow!

Oh me, I like everything neat and tidy so finishing this up before the challenge starts. I've had a slow reading week needing to catch up after being away but ready to get back into it tomorrow. Happy reading everyone. Renaissance (Brazen Bulls Birthright #4) by Susan Fanetti .

I went and saw the latest Downton Abbey movie today. I love it and actually went to Highclere Castle, it's real name in 2019 which was amazing. It's more beautiful in real life. Everytime they shot coming down the driveway I tear up, remembering my visit.

Bee (abirbee) | 667 comments I finished my last book last week. And my hands are itching to start my new one.
These 9 hours are dragging themselves.

I also found another book that fits the muses challenge "Royal title in the book"
The Queen of Attolia by Megan Whalen Turner

message 106: by Deanna (new)

Deanna | 3529 comments Argh. I finished getting DS's transcript and course descriptions ready for his army application. What am I supposed to do with the next three hours?!?

message 107: by Sara (last edited May 15, 2022 12:13PM) (new)

Sara Hollingsworth | 134 comments Haha, I feel that Deanna. I just finished my left over book from yesterday and now I need to wait 50 mins until I can start my next one. D: The anticipation is painful.

message 108: by Karolyn (new)

Karolyn | 1041 comments 35 minutes. I don't have that kind of patience :)

The post with the mini tasks at the start of this team thread is updated with what letters and tasks we have planned as of right now. It looks like we're going to be off to a good start!

message 109: by Deanna (new)

Deanna | 3529 comments So apparently in three hours, I can sweep the kitchen floor and move the dining room table then pickup up, vacuum, and run the carpet shampooer in the dining room, living room, hall, and master bedroom. My carpets love me, my back not so much.

That's great! I wish I was having that kind of luck, lol. My first book was awful. Just finished it and it was definitely not good.

It's tough when you read for a challenge and hate the book. Is it better to cut your losses and scrap it or plough on for the team? I rarely do that in general but I just couldn't read a library book a week back (between challenges) and had to ditch it or lose the will to live.

message 117: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (sarahjh26) | 629 comments Captains, I hope I didn't miss you mentioning it, but how would you like us to report books read? On this thread and/or the Books tab on the spreadsheet? Are we ourselves placing them in the different tasks or just letting the captains do it?

message 118: by Karolyn (last edited May 15, 2022 06:20PM) (new)

Karolyn | 1041 comments Sarah wrote: "Captains, I hope I didn't miss you mentioning it, but how would you like us to report books read? On this thread and/or the Books tab on the spreadsheet? Are we ourselves placing them in the differ..."

If you can add the book/completion date/page count to the spreadsheet that would be great. The captains are starting to slot them into the mini - but we may end up needing to move things around as we go.

If you prefer not to mess with the spreadsheet just post in the thread and we’ll add the book 😄

message 119: by Bee (new)

Bee (abirbee) | 667 comments I, for one, don't want to mess with the spreadsheet, especially after spending the night finishing my first book, and dieing for some sleep.

This is my first log in and then I'm off to bed. See ya guys tomorrow.

Book: Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno-Garcia
Page: 352 pages.
How fits: M - S - G

Shannon O'Flynn | 630 comments Good job guys! Keep up the reading! :)

I should hopefully have my first book done by tonight!

message 122: by Deanna (new)

Deanna | 3529 comments Finished reading Written in Red (The Others, #1) by Anne Bishop . A refreshing visit to the Lakeside Courtyard as always. Currently listening to The Eye of the World (The Wheel of Time, #1) by Robert Jordan and about 25% along.

message 123: by Emma (M) (last edited May 16, 2022 01:57PM) (new)

Emma (M) | 1777 comments I first listened to Written in Red (The Others, #1) by Anne Bishop and the 2nd in the series when I was pregnant and had morning sickness. Needless to say I never continued with the series as all I can remember when I see the book covers is feeling ill, 😂

Too funny. I love the books enough that I would have to try covering the covers.

😅 Brilliant. Perfect time for an audiobook.

Tina ❣ (nutrinut) | 2000 comments Helloo everyone!

The NBRC Back room group have their BOM sorted now. We'll be reading Wildfire (Sons of Olympus #1) by Sam Burns from 22nd May.

I've signed up to DQ for us (:

Link to thread is here

message 128: by Shannon (new)

Shannon O'Flynn | 630 comments I finished my first book earlier today. It was the BOM book (so technically im a little ahead of schedule with it) but it was such a good book! I got sucked into it!

Onto my next book now!

That's a funny, or not so funny ;) , anekdote. I'm planning on rereading them. I think I've read the 3 books, but the last one not. Maybe you can cover the cover, like Deanna suggested ;)

Lisa - (Aussie Girl) | 6397 comments I'm up to Lake Silence (The World of the Others, #1; The Others, #6) by Anne Bishop I think. Such an original, interesting series.

message 131: by Bee (new)

Bee (abirbee) | 667 comments I'm back to work today, so my reading will go a bit slower.
I also started reading the BOM The Travelling Cat Chronicles

message 132: by Elisabeth (new)

Elisabeth Rose (elisabethrose) | 816 comments I've set myself a minimum daily quota of 90 pages with the machinations of Thomas Cromwell and Henry VIII. It's not quick reading. My goodness they were ruthless. Nothing has changed in politics and the struggle to get and retain power, except now beheading isn't the method of choice for disposing of enemies.

message 133: by Deanna (new)

Deanna | 3529 comments Finished Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (Harry Potter, #4) by J.K. Rowling last night and The Eye of the World (The Wheel of Time, #1) by Robert Jordan this morning. Updated spreadsheet.

I'll work on the BOM next and start a reread of Illuminae (The Illuminae Files, #1) by Amie Kaufman .

Deedee | 626 comments Hi all! I'm currently reading The Physick Book of Deliverance Dane. I started it May 13 and had read about 70 pages before the May 15 start. The book is 371 pages -- will it still count?

Next up will be The Travelling Cat Chronicles

Unfortunately, only books started after the start of the challenge count.

Lisa - (Aussie Girl) | 6397 comments Abir wrote: "I just realized that if we exceed the number of books we set as our monthly limit we will loose points. So now I'm slowing down a bit"

I think it will be okay Abir as the points are a total group effort. And there are bound to be people where real life kicks their butt and can't read what they allocated. Hoping I'm not one of them, LOL.

Ah, OK then. My first book of this challenge will then be The Travelling Cat Chronicles, which I should get to very soon.

Yes, same bonus points.

message 142: by Karolyn (new)

Karolyn | 1041 comments The total book count is for all of us as a team for the whole 3 months… so don’t slow down, we’re all going to have life happen! I agreed to facilitate a 3.5 day workshop this week and dig into a 1000 page Steven King novel… so can promise I’m behind on my book count right now. We’ll all help balance each other out.

message 143: by Shannon (new)

Shannon O'Flynn | 630 comments Yes! I definitely agree! Dont slow down now as life does get in the way and sometimes as you go through the challenge, you get a little burnt out from reading so much. So if youre enjoying the reading now, go for it :)

message 144: by Shannon (new)

Shannon O'Flynn | 630 comments Just finished my second book Unnatural Ends by Christopher Huang . Gonna update the spreadsheet if it needs to be updated and tomorrow i'm going to start a longer book Chain of Iron (The Last Hours, #2) by Cassandra Clare

message 145: by Elisabeth (new)

Elisabeth Rose (elisabethrose) | 816 comments To finish our May mini someone's going to have to read fast because it won't be me, Abir :) This 885 pager will take about another 4 or 5 days, I think, so I'll only get through one or maybe two more shorter ones to help with the May mini challenge.

message 146: by Bee (new)

Bee (abirbee) | 667 comments Okay guys. Now I'll fire it away. It's a slow Thursday so I'll try to finish the BOM The Travelling Cat Chronicles.
Fingers crossed

It doesn't sound like my kind of book. I like a happy ending ...that said Henry VIII did have Thomas Cromwell beheaded and I've become fond of him over the three volume set.
