Midweek Mini UpdateWe're doing really well and the end is in sight! Here is what we still need for the current Muse Mini and I have not updated the spreadsheet yet today (will after work).
Thalia (comedy)
🎭 We need 7 more books, but can be creative and make most any titles work.
Melpomene (tragedy)
🎭 We need 11 more and can be pretty open and creative with titles here too.
Euterpe
🎶 Only ONE more with song lyrics or poetry in the text (and Abir's book may work)
Terpichore
👗🤵♂️ We need 7 more with ball outfits on the cover - think dresses, tuxedos or even a masquerade mask
⛲️🪩🌇And finally 3 books with the setting for a ball on the cover. To clarify, the settings do NOT all need to match… so ballrooms, gardens, a fancy hotel or mansion - anything is fair game
We are fine on number of books read for the challenge - no need to worry about going over and getting the penalty.
As of last night we were in 2nd place!!!!
Please confirm if you are on track to finish any books you have in the spreadsheet (or if you have any read that are not added yet) so we can plan to cover anything we need to next week to maximize our mini challenge points
Finished:The Witches of New York (Witches of New York #1) (2016) by Ami McKay
Page Count: 535 pages
Letters: A, M, W
Currently reading:
(I'll probably finish Sunday-Monday)
The Swan Gondola (2014) by Timothy Schaffert
Page Count: 458 pages
Letters: S, S, T
I'll finish all my books on the spreadsheet and will work out how many extra and what categories I can do over the weekend.
I probably should answer my own questions 😂I’ll get my two finished - although a long Stephen King and a pretty dense non-fiction we’re probably not the brightest picks for the end of the challenge!
I also hope to get a few more in to help with challenges where we need them, especially if I can manage a quiet and uneventful weekend.
I've been looking at some short ones I can do in a hurry for ball outfits and whatnot. I can squeeze some in if need be.
I'll finish my actor on cover book--meant to last night but kept falling asleep with about 40 pages to go.Will knock over Taste and just picked up a couple of quick reads which will work for the titles--Orchestrated Death and Dead End. May not manage both.
Fyi I've got about 4 hours left on my current audiobook and then up next I'm doing The Paris Dressmaker, with a big old ballgown on the cover. I also just added a book to the spreadsheet with a poem in text.

They don’t have completion dates in the spreadsheet, but maybe you’ve finished them or they’re recorded wrong?
A Court of Thornes and Roses
Huck Finn's America: Mark Twain and the Era that Shaped his Masterpiece
The Essex Serpent
Huh... I normally do pretty well getting in everything on the spreadsheet. Please let me know if there's something else I'm missing!A Court of Thorns and Roses was finished June 21. Huck Finn was finished June 11. And Essex Serpent was finished on June 19.
Sarah wrote: "Huh... I normally do pretty well getting in everything on the spreadsheet. Please let me know if there's something else I'm missing!A Court of Thorns and Roses was finished June 21. Huck Finn was..."
I’ll update them, thanks so much. Managing this spreadsheet is something I don’t think any of us will miss!
I've finished Moon Called already. I'll finish Apprentice in Death, but I'm not sure about The Beautiful as it is an audio borrow from Libby, and I can't try prolonging it until tomorrow. It didn't hook me from the start, so it's been slow going. I just started
and plan on reading that one and
afterwards, but I leave for a last minute vacation on Sunday, and I don't know exactly how much I'll be able to read the last week.
Sarah wrote: "Will a wedding dress and tux work for a ball outfit?"The tux for sure… so I’d say yes.
I can’t finish Strange the Dreamer but am replacing it with Seduced by a Stranger, so it shouldn’t affect the mini-challenge.
Emma (M) wrote: "I can’t finish Strange the Dreamer but am replacing it with Seduced by a Stranger, so it shouldn’t affect the mini-challenge."Thanks Emma!!
Finished
.I've added Orchestrated Death as my next read. The cover is no use but the title may be and if not it'll have food and drink in it so might be useful if you need to switch things around. My edition doesn't have a listed page count but I've put the number of pages actually in the book.

I'm not sure yet, it has a list of songs in it but I'm not sure if the lyrics are written. I'll let you know if I find anything.
What I'm certain of is that the book is MPG Music
Our Last Weekend UpdateOne week (and a day) to go!!! Everyone is doing amazing and we look like we’re going to finish strong. Sorry that I didn’t respond to everyone’s messages, but I read them all 😄
For the Mini:
Thalia (comedy) All spots claimed and Deanna is drafting our “story”
Melpomene (tragedy)
🎭 We need 7 more and can be pretty open and creative with titles here too. And then we’ll have to write our story once we have all the titles.
Terpichore
👗🤵♂️ We need 4 more with ball outfits on the cover - think dresses, tuxedos or even a masquerade mask
⛲️🪩🌇And finally 2 books with the setting for a ball on the cover. To clarify, the settings do NOT all need to match… so ballrooms, gardens, a fancy hotel or mansion - anything is fair game
📚We are fine on number of books read for the challenge - no need to worry about going over and getting the penalty.
⚓️And all 5 of our Battleship slots have been taken ⚓️
We are still solidly in 2nd place!!!!
If you’re worried about finishing anything you have on the spreadsheet, let us know so we can plan for it. Life happens.
Have a great final week of TT2022!!
Thanks Karolyn! All you Captains have done a magnificent job keeping us all in line. 😊 And a great team, it makes it so much more fun when everyone participates fully. Here's to an amazing finish!
Apologies for my absence everyone. Life got the better of me (bought my first property with my partner and I didn't realise there was so much to do for that, had health issues and way too busy at work)..I've manage to finally update that I read a few books. I've slotted my books into finishing up Terpichore. Yay!
So now we're just looking to fill up books for Melpomene (tragedy) which should be easy enough!
I'm super impressed with how everyone has gone. You're all amazing (:
Finished:They Shoot Horses, Don’t They? (1935) by Horace McCoy
Page Count: 128
Letters: H, M, T
It would fit under "tragedy". It's a "Noir" novel, very bleak in tone.
I didn't know that was a book, Deedee. It was a play called Marathon 33 and I thought the movie was based on that.I met my husband when we were both playing in a local theatre production in the onstage dance band for the marathons in the play. You're right, it's a very bleak story set in the Great Depression.
Sarah wrote: "Are we all set with ball outfit book covers?"They’re all claimed, but backups aren’t a bad think in case we need to move anything around.
Ok will do then. I just added two to the spreadaheet as well. I favorited a few books with ballgowns on hoopla that I have zero interest in but then I allow myself to listen to it at 4x speed as I don't mind not savoring every word!
Either tonight or tomorrow I may start moving some books around so we can complete some of the mini-challenge tasks sooner. Don’t worry, every book get us points! We only have 4 tragedy spots left to fill, and there are three or four books that we haven’t slated into tasks yet. Maybe midweek we can look at anything that isn’t finished for the mini and if we need to make any backup plans if anyone has concerns about finishing by Monday.
For anyone who’s competitive… we’re only about 1000 points out of 1st place and the team in first has their spreadsheet up to date. Meaning we are in striking distance!
The audiobook I just finished doesn't have an audiobook edition that matches. Is there someone here that is a GR librarian?
Sarah wrote: "The audiobook I just finished doesn't have an audiobook edition that matches. Is there someone here that is a GR librarian?"What's the book that you finished Sarah? And is there a link to the audiobook version you want uploaded? We can pass on the details to the GR librarians in the captains chat for it to be added in
Its called Invitation to the Boss's Ball by Fiona Harper. There's only one audio version and the cover and other info are completely different than the audiobook I got off hoopla. Publisher is Recorded Books in 2014. Narraror is the same, Rebecca De Leeuw. I screenshotted the info and the cover.Link to the cover: Cover

The book I’m reading now is number 4 in a series. It’s titled Dead End but the series has been republished by Sphere in 2019 and some books given different titles which makes it tricky to identify them. Dead End has the cover I have but is separately listed on GR as Dead End 4 but not included as an ‘other version’ on the author’s main page. The old version is titled Grave Music.
Ugh. That sounds messy. I would use the one that matches the cover and page count of your book. We won’t need to use it for the challenge, so I don’t worry as much. But we can ask a GR librarian to look at updating / connecting the links also.
One Last Midweek Update!!We’re in great shape everyone! I’m waiting to add some books to the spreadsheet so we have some backup options if we need them. I’m that person who has backups to backup plans 😂
The only thing we don’t have a backup for is a book where the title starts with S and ends with R. If anyone has or knows of a book that would work for that it would be good to know - even though we shouldn’t need it.
Otherwise, as long as we finish the books on the spreadsheet slated to Mini spots… you can read anything and everything you want to finish strong! We’re not at any risk of going over the max book count.
Sarah wrote: "Starts with S and ends with R...do definite articles count?"We can ignore A, An, and The like usual 😄
Karolyn wrote: "Ugh. That sounds messy. I would use the one that matches the cover and page count of your book. We won’t need to use it for the challenge, so I don’t worry as much. But we can ask a GR librarian to..."Thanks Karolyn. Apart from a challenge use, it is a pain because in the series list it shows up as though I haven't read it when I'm looking at where I have reading gaps.
I have about an hour left in my current audiobook abd then I'll start The Storyteller by Jodi Picoult. Will be my first Picoult!

I hadn't realized it was a book either until it popped up on a list of "noir mysteries".

Thanks! Can you let us know if Playlist for a Broken Heart has any song lyrics or poetry - that would finish one of our mini-challenge tasks!
