Two people were previously in jail, one for 7 years, but at the time of the book, they were free.
Karolyn wrote: "Back to finding that pesky fig!!!"The book I’m reading has ‘figs’ but it will be a while before I finish.
Helter Skelter is non-fiction so not sure if it works for ‘character’ but they are all in jail in that. It’s blue in the SS so not sure if it’s been used already but there was no T number assigned that I could see. Also, I seemed to have made a mistake and listed Boar 5 against that book when that task doesn’t apply. It should actually be Harpies 3. I’ll change it but just wanted to note in case it has been applied against Boar 5.

Anyone know if theres a limit on when you can count a book of the month. I feel like its the second the month after the book is read but I cant find anything about that in the rules...Im trying to finish the Book of Cold Cases today and was hoping I could count it. I already finished the DQs
Shannon, I think it's a month later from the first day of the discussion questions. So for The Book of Cold Cases it would be 2 July. Usually the Mods will post that it no longer can be used. Please amend if this is wrong, Captains.
For anyone reading for the Battleship Challenge... "Battleship" is now added to the dropdown in our working spreadsheet as an option for "where used".Happy belated Canada Day to our Canadians and Happy Independence Day Weekend to the American's on the team! I had great plans to read a lot, but there is a Yellowstone marathon on TV and I'm a wee bit distracted.

The BOM tab has an "Answer By" date for each book. For the Book of Cold Cases it's today (July 2)
Ah ok! Ill finish it. It just wont count as the BOM then. I have to get the ebook from the library sonce were on vacation now. Its on hold.

-and we remain in 1st place overall!!!
Amazing work everyone!
Echidna
Echidna aka the Mother of Monsters has been spotted on your lands. Hard to kill and looking for some quality "me time".
To vanquish this monster you must:
1.) Read a book between 350 and 450 pages (inclusive).
2.) Read a book with CAVE in text.
3.) Read a book where a character uses a sword.
4.) Author name (first and last) contain all the letters in HERA
5.) Read a book where a MC is a mother
She didn’t last long… so our new monster:Kraken

The Kraken has been seen in the sea depths near you land, destroying ships on a whim. If defeated, you will always wonder how you managed to survive. May be searching for Andromeda or Pegasus, he's a bit bitter they got away.
To vanquish this monster you must:
1.) Read a book 800 pages or longer.
2.) Read a book with a ship on the cover (spaceship allowed because Mods can be benevolent too).
3.) Read a book where the Author name (first or last) starts and ends with the same letter (e.g., Andromeda)
4.) Read a book where a character goes swimming
5.) Read a book that has an 8 in the series number (e.g., #8, #18, #0.8)
I just checked the spreadsheet and I noticed that my BOM The Witch's Heart DQ's wasn't added. It's an extra 20 points that we could lose. Could one of the captains please check it out?
New Monster to sing as we read…Sirens

The Sirens have been spotted on your shores endangering ships heading for the harbor. Easy enough to defeat if you know how, don't recommend calling them one hit wonders though.
To vanquish this monster you must:
1.) Read a book between 100 and 125 pages (inclusive).
2.) Read a book that takes place on a boat or ship.
3.) Read a book with a character who is deaf (any degree acceptable)
4.) Read a book with a rope on the cover.
5.) Read a book with "Mermaid" in the text.
Abir wrote: "I just checked the spreadsheet and I noticed that my BOM The Witch's Heart DQ's wasn't added. It's an extra 20 points that we could lose. Could one of the captains please check it out?"Added.
Finished
This was listed for 'figs' T164 but from the Monster sheet it's been filled already. It also has Mermaid in the text so can work for T 180 Sirens 5.
Charybdis is finished! We got a new monster!Manticore

The man-eating Manticore has been terrorizing your people. Very hard to kill with 3 rows of sharp teeth that completely devour their victims. Not even the bones left to bury. If you find them, it's best to turn them into a nice 'Persian" rug before they decide to eat you first.
To vanquish this monster you must:
1.) Read a book between 500 and 650 pages (inclusive).
2.) Read a book set in Persia (Iran, Egypt, Turkey, Afghanistan and Pakistan).
3.) Read a book with the letters MAN EATER in title (any order).
4.) Read a book with MPG Paranormal > Shapeshifters.
5.) Read a book with a 3 in the publication date.
I've got
up next. It was published on 6 March 2018... does the March count for a 3 in publication date? Also MPG Paranormal>shapeshifters.
I'm following the group chat for warships and have a general understanding of how it works. I know we chose our 20 books for this round all ready. If I remember correctly, you can use books as long as they were started after the beginning of warships. I've finished both Ariadne today and another book that works for retellings and Greece. Since they're not the easiest genres, along with other difficult genres we come across, should we not be putting them in the spreadsheet to be used for the monster mini?
Saar The Book owl wrote: "I've almost finished my book for the Battleship. Can this also be used for the Mini?"Pretty sure it can only be used for one or the other not both.
We just had someone leave my team at work and we've been scrambling to get his projects assigned. I've been reading, but haven't had a chance to update the spreadsheet. I'm hoping to do that in the next few days.

My parents left this morning, so I've added a couple of 800+ books to work on now that I've finished my book for the warships challenge.
Deanna wrote: "My parents left this morning, so I've added a couple of 800+ books to work on now that I've finished my book for the warships challenge."Nice! I have one more big Steven King I’d like to get off my TBR list and maybe it will balance the non-fiction I’ve been reading. I have to get my book club book finished first no matter what 😂
Just finished The Stranger Beside Me: Ted Bundy: The Shocking Inside Story and posted to spreadsheet. However was used for Battleships so haven’t included any Monster Mini information.
I just spent the night in the hospital. I don't know how the next few days are going to be like for me, but I will hopefully be able to maintain pace.
New Monster!!Python

Python has been seen on your lands, searching for Apollo and Artemis. He's not that hard to kill as Greek monsters go being just a really big snake, may be interested in ladies with buns. Be warned though, his death may require a penance be paid to satisfy Zeus.
To vanquish this monster you must:
1.) Read a book between 100 and 125 pages (inclusive).
2.) Read a book that features twins.
3. Read a book whose author name (first or last) starts with a letter in SWORD.
4.) Read a book where a character is pregnant.
5.) Read a book that mentions some type of championship games (World Cup, Olympics, World Series, etc).
Sixty wrote: "I just spent the night in the hospital. I don't know how the next few days are going to be like for me, but I will hopefully be able to maintain pace."Oh no! I hope you’re doing ok. Take care of yourself and don’t stress about reading.
Sixty wrote: "I just spent the night in the hospital. I don't know how the next few days are going to be like for me, but I will hopefully be able to maintain pace."Sorry to hear that, hope you are feeling better soon.
In case anyone missed it, in the Battleship chat we're planning for our books for the next week. We're trying to be balanced and have 5 people from each team read. This post has what genres we are looking for people to commit to for the next round. Thanks to Lisa and Silje for already volunteering! We have 3 more slots to fill from our team.

In Project Hail Mary there is a character that is in prison when he's first introduced. The MC is also detained in a cell for at least a night, maybe a few days I don't remember exactly. I don't know if that would count.
