I might troll some of the other teams when I get home too.
Guess who’s back…Medusa

The infamous Gorgon sister, Medusa has been spotted on your lands. Hard to kill and is looking for recommendations for a new hair stylist. Hers never seem to last long.
To vanquish this monster you must:
1.) Read a book between 350 and 450 pages (inclusive).
2.) Read a book that takes place in a desert.
3.) Read a book where someone is beheaded.
4.) Read a book with a mirror on the cover.
5.) Read a book with a snake on the cover.
I've been reading
today. It works for beheading and maybe snake on cover (You can see the eye and part of the head. Think it's enough?)I can also read
for bullheaded in text.I'll add them to the spreadsheet in the morning.
The battleship game looks way too complicated, but maybe it's just me. 😁Captains, do you want us to put the genre in the spreadsheet somewhere for you to place in the game?
Just adding this here for a reference. These are what my kindle came up with for bullheaded or hardheaded. I'll get started on one either tonight or tomorrow.Bullheaded
The House by the Church-Yard
Battlefield Earth: A Saga of the Year 3000
Beyond the Deep: Deadly Descent into the World's Most Treacherous Cave
Deliverence Carter
Hardheaded
Sorrowland
The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes
Clarke's Universe
The Curse of Conchobar
The Fervor
The Merry Adventures of Robin Hood
Mongrels
Twin Sombreros
Reading this one for "hardheaded" Mongrels
Loc 305 "Your uncle's too hardheaded to remember..."
I added it to the spreadsheet.

Gosh yes, Lisa. I don't really know about the original Battleship thing in the first place.
Yep, the Battleship game has me rather confused. I feel like I’m going to have to reread the rules multiple times for it to make sense.
Emma (M) wrote: "Yep, the Battleship game has me rather confused. I feel like I’m going to have to reread the rules multiple times for it to make sense."Or ignore it -- hahaha . At least until one of our leaders says read this...
For Battleship, I think actually playing the first couple rounds will solidify how the game actually works. For now, we just need to get our board set up. Please post your ideas in the Battlechat thread.
I am generally really confused about the battleship game because it’s a lot of banking and using books. I’m just gonna try to read the genres we are assigned and that is it

Nemean Lion has been seen lounging in the sun on your land after feasting on man. He's hard to defeat, don't underestimate him because he sleeps more than he's awake. Also, don't send Kate Daniels, "here kitty kitty kitty" probably won't turn out as well for her this time.

We've finished Echinda and spun Nemean Lion again...Nemean Lion

Shannon wrote: "Hey guys! Sorry Ive been a bit MIA recently. Work took off and Ive been coming home exhausted. I go on vacation in three days so hoping to get more time to read then :)"No worries, Shannon. Everyone has times like this IRL. I think as a team we're pretty much reading on schedule and are going very well.
Hey everyone, sorry for being a bit radio silent. I've been crazy busy and then sick the last couple days. I've basically been sleeping half the day. So, I also haven't got as much reading done as I would like. Dx
Ugh, poor you, Sara. There's a lot of other fluey type illness popping up apart from Covid now. Hope you're getting better. Nothing worse than having to be in bed but not feeling well enough to read!
Elisabeth wrote: "Ugh, poor you, Sara. There's a lot of other fluey type illness popping up apart from Covid now. Hope you're getting better. But I did the covid test and it was negative. I might retake it, just to be super sure. Still, ugh, hate being sick and unable to read or stay awake long enough to really do anything.
Yeah, the flu this year is brutal. It just went through our whole family. I can’t remember feeling that sick since having measles 30 years ago! It’s also the first time In 10 years I’ve seen my partner so sick. And, the symptoms are what you expect of Covid - we only know for sure it’s the flu because they test for flu as well as Covid when doing a PCR test in NSW.The most galling thing was I had, had the flu vaccination 6 weeks earlier. They sure did miss the mark with the flu vaccination this year.
Also, I couldn’t bring myself to read either. Thankfully the not being able to read passed once my symptoms cleared up.
I hope you feel better soon Sara!
For a book set in Africa, I recommend I Am a Girl From Africa. It’s a biography and a pretty quick read about a woman who came from a very poor African village to eventually be a leader at the UN. I read it a few months ago, so too soon for a re-read. I’m on the app because I’m traveling for work this week or I’d link it. I have a few others at home I can check. I should be back home and reading more regularly tomorrow!!!’
I finished the BOM The Witch's Heart. And this my DQ answers: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
If anyone needs a quick book set in Africa, I recommend Buried Beneath the Baobab Tree by Adaobi Tricia Nwaubani! It’s such a good read and a very important read!
Medusa is done! Erymanthian Boar

Erymanthian Boar has been seen on your lands, roaming the mountain tops. Very hard to defeat, recommend bundling up and using the mountain top weather to your advantage.

5.) Read a book with MPG Animal.
I'll be finishing Born a Crime: Stories From a South African Childhood today for an Africa one.I finished Parasite Rex: Inside the Bizarre World of Nature's Most Dangerous Creatures the other day for a "title that contains all the letters of ZEUS" one.
I asked in the Captains Q&A and got no answer… so what do you all think. Does a lion count as a cat for the “features a cat” task for the Nemean Lion?
I was able to get one last book done this month! Yay. I was thankfully feeling up to some reading, and I finished the BOM The Witch's Heart.
Karolyn wrote: "I asked in the Captains Q&A and got no answer… so what do you all think. Does a lion count as a cat for the “features a cat” task for the Nemean Lion?"I'd say yes, too. It's a very big cat.
Let’s hope that we get Minotaur again, the book I just finished covers 4 of the 5 tasks for that Monster.
Yes, for lion as cat. I have to run DD to class; but I'll sit down in a couple of hours, update everything, and post a status report.Welcome to July everyone!
I finished Born a Crime: Stories From a South African Childhood for an Africa setting. I had it marked for the wrong task on the sheet, but I've updated it now.
One Nemean Lion complete. New monster is...Caucasian Eagle

The Caucasian Eagle has taken to the skies over your lands in the search of do-gooders who don't think the rules apply to them. Not so hard to defeat with a little effort and maybe setting some traps with organ meat.

1.) Read a book between 200 and 299 pages (inclusive).
2.) Read a book set in Russia.
3.) Read a book with a bird on the cover.
4.) Read a book with the letters LIVER in title (any order)
5.) Read a book where a character goes to prison/jail (or is already there).
(The mods have added some new monsters for more variety. If everyone could check their books on the spreadsheet, and let me know if your books work for any of these.)
Preparations for week 1 in Trojan Warships are underway.Head over here to let us know what books you want to contribute.
With this new monster… if anyone has a book (especially one that’s finished and banked at the top of our spreadsheet) where a character is in prison/jail or goes there… can you please let us know in the thread or add it for that task in the spreadsheet? I see several mysteries, but you never know if the villain gets caught and makes it to jail till the end of the book 😄
Charybdis
Charybdis has been spotted close to your shores and endangering ships heading for the harbor. If you manage to defeat this monster be prepared to answer "how are you still alive" every time you tell the story. The monster is interested in helping you reach your childhood dream of finding what's in Davy Jones's Locker.

1.) Read a book 800 pages or longer.
2.) Author's name (first or last) starts with one of the letters in POOL.
3.) Read a book where the MC is forced to make a hard choice (your interpretation).
4.) Read a book with "fig" in the title or text.
5.) Read a book where the characters take a boat trip (of any type).

Looks like we need a book where the MC gets lost and one where a character described as "bull-headed" or "hard-headed". So let us know if you have anything that fits those 😄
