Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments I'll see if I can swap a book out for something that fits a task and that I can read quick enough.

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments I have in my head a book character that's an archer but I can only think of Legolas from LOTR.

message 1053: by Stacey (new)

Stacey (boydsmom) | 1377 comments I have a character that uses a bow and arrow - does that make him an archer? Or does that need to be his job? I can take that task if that works.

Teresa (teresab78) | 1658 comments Stacey wrote: "I have a character that uses a bow and arrow - does that make him an archer? Or does that need to be his job? I can take that task if that works."

I would think that counts...

message 1055: by Teresa (new)

Teresa (teresab78) | 1658 comments I’m going to read a book for prophecy - it’s quick!

message 1056: by Tory (new)

Tory Hendershot (nghtstlkr64) | 240 comments I don't know if anyone's working on it at the moment, but Dreams of the Raven would work for a character who is wise.

message 1057: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 1896 comments Awesome! No wise guys yet :) which character is wise?

message 1058: by Tory (new)

Tory Hendershot (nghtstlkr64) | 240 comments Spock or McCoy would fit in this one.

message 1059: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments since people are already look for archer and prophecy, I will look for something set in Persia. I know a series but maybe I can find something that also covers 500-600 pages.

message 1060: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments No luck on one with that page length. So I'm going to read an Amelia Peabody book. I'll add it the spreadsheet. No hard feelings on my part if someone beats me to the Persia task.

message 1061: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 1896 comments Yes! I have the Persia book covered. I am listening to a middle grades book set in Afghanistan. I'm about 1/2 way finished (lots of chores and errands today)

message 1062: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 1896 comments If we finish a monster, should I ask for another, even though we are finishing up on Friday?

message 1063: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 1896 comments Just finished Princess for Warships

message 1064: by Teresa (new)

Teresa (teresab78) | 1658 comments Melissa wrote: "If we finish a monster, should I ask for another, even though we are finishing up on Friday?"

I would, as we may be able to fit some of our banked books

message 1065: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 1896 comments Sounds good.

message 1066: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments Glad I checked in, I’ll skip the Egypt book for now and go back to a longer book.

Melissa | 1896 comments Drop Bear

The Drop Bear has been rumored to inhabit your wooded lands. They may look cute and cuddly but beware they are very hard to defeat and come out of nowhere. Just remember, all wildlife from Australia is apparently out to kill you, no matter how cute.

To vanquish this monster you must:
1.) Read a book between 500 and 650 pages (inclusive).
2.) Read a book set in Australia.
3.) Read a book with a surprise twist (your interpretation).
4.) Read a book with a carnivore on the cover (make sure it's not an omnivore!).
5.) Read a book with author initials found in VEGEMiTE.

message 1071: by Teresa (new)

Teresa (teresab78) | 1658 comments Deke might fit the surprise twist. (view spoiler)

message 1072: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 1896 comments Our monster mini will be drawing to a close tomorrow at 9PM GMT +1!
We can get 5 points per task, even if we don't defeat the monsters.
A new challenge awaits! It is in the All about / Announcements. It looks like a lot of fun :)

message 1073: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 1896 comments @Teresa nice.
I have an Australian book, but I’m not sure I can finish it by tomorrow.

Laurie B | 928 comments Hi, team! Sorry I went AWOL. I'm glad I didn't commit to reading many books because I have not had time to read! And last week I was on vacation and forgot to mention it here. I hope to contribute more here in the home stretch.

message 1075: by Tory (new)

Tory Hendershot (nghtstlkr64) | 240 comments Enemy Unseen works for author initials (V.E. Mitchell)

message 1076: by Mary X (last edited Jul 14, 2022 11:28AM) (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments I'm going to listen a quick cozy with a domestic cat on the cover for "carnivore on cover". Yes even though they can eat non-meat foods, they are actually carnivores. Just in case this is questioned.

I was hoping to find a cozy or romance set in Australia with a cat on the cover but I'm tired of looking. And I don't have time to read a 500-600 page book by the deadline.

No worries! I went way over my limit.

message 1079: by Teresa (new)

Teresa (teresab78) | 1658 comments Melissa, I finished a #6 book with a musical instrument so replaced yours and Heather's. We can Keep Heather's in case the next monster has 800 pg requirement.

The Stymphalian Birds are done!!!

message 1080: by Nanci (new)

Nanci | 2567 comments Melissa,
I finished my book for Echidna. Sorry, I finished it on the 13th, but just now am getting to GR. Our kids and grands are visiting us and we've been really busy. I am about halfway done with another book, so I'll see how it might fit.

message 1081: by Nanci (new)

Nanci | 2567 comments Just read through all the comments. OMGosh! I think I got my book mentioned above in comment 1080 entered in time! I would have been upset if I'd read it and then just didn't get it logged in time and messed us up! Yikes!

I'm excited to move on to our next mini challenge!

message 1082: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 1896 comments Looks awesome! I'll get a couple more monsters!
I'll be here until about 1:00 EST - 3 hours before the end of this one, I think. Then I'll be out of touch until Sunday afternoon.

Melissa | 1896 comments Penanggalan

3.) Read a book where author identifies as female.
4.) Read a book with MPG Paranormal.
5.) Read a book with the word "vinegar" in text.

Melissa | 1896 comments Lamia

1.) Read a book between 200 and 299 pages (inclusive).
2.) Read a book with the night sky on the cover.
3.) Read a book where someone is kidnapped.
4.) Read a book that features a prophecy.
5.) Read a book where a child (under age 18) is an important part of the plot.

message 1085: by Teresa (new)

Teresa (teresab78) | 1658 comments I might be able to get another prophecy book done today, but probably not...

message 1086: by Laurie B (new)

Laurie B | 928 comments The book I just finished yesterday - Paranormalcy - works for all the Lamia tasks except the page count (off by only 36 pages!). It would also work for tasks 3 and 4 of the Penanggalan. I see other books have been filled in on the spreadsheet, but I'll add the appropriate mini codes to mine.

message 1087: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 1896 comments I’m with you Teresa. I was thinking of trying to squeeze in a Cambodia book but I just don’t think that’s gonna happen! I’m thinking we did pretty darn good on the monsters! I’m gonna print out the rules for the next mini and try to figure that one out. Nanci has a good head start for us on that one!

message 1088: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 1896 comments No worries at all Nanci!

message 1089: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 1896 comments I’ll finish up what I can on monster stuff At about noon but then I’m off for the weekend! Camping and s’mores :-)

I'll put that one in then. I probably won't get my prophecy book done anyway, and we have the page count covered. This will defeat the monster!

Melissa | 1896 comments I can take my hot six book off of the lemon lady and put in a different page count Book. Then maybe get another and see what we can do with it!?

The amount of auto correct I just had to do on that message was incredible.
