Teresa (teresab78) | 1658 comments I have a book that works for the Fig task but I’m not home this weekend and can’t check to see which one. Also I think I still have either Murder and Mayem or Tramps and Thieves that works for thief…

Melissa | 1896 comments No worries about the fig. I'm off chasing windmills, and have figs a plenty! I'll stick my name on there for now. I don't mind being bumped though!!

message 653: by Teresa (new)

Teresa (teresab78) | 1658 comments Well, they’re already finished and on spreadsheet so whatever works 😊

message 654: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 1896 comments Sweet! Done is better than not done!!

evidence seized under the fig leaf

message 656: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 1896 comments Excellent. I’m trying to figure out why A Study in Scarlet suddenly changed settings to Utah..

message 657: by Keli (new)

Keli | 1325 comments I'll have the shepherdess book finished tomorrow for banking. It's not as dull as I thought it would be. In fact, as I was reading one of the stories seemed a little familiar and I think that's because I probably saw it on tv. The author has or had her own farm program. They do like a farm show over here.

That's cool. My mom raised sheep for a while. She really loved them. I think they can be quite endearing.

message 659: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments Ugh. The Goldfinch is not quite 800 pages.

The sheep world history book was pretty interesting. Not disappointed that I read it.

We played Boggle and Phase 10. I brought Death by Trivia but we didn’t get around to that.

We’re having a Cards Against Humanity night at our house July 3rd.

message 660: by Keely (new)

Keely (kiwifruit192) | 1819 comments I love Boggle, but I haven't played it since I was a kid as no one else has wanted to play when the opportunity arose.

You all seem to have the monsters pretty much covered so for now, I'm just going to focus on finishing those BOMs. Afterwards I could start another 800+ page book in case we need one later but we will see what happens before I am ready to do that.

message 661: by Maddy (new)

Maddy | 2127 comments Can someone fix page count for me please?
This book - https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/4...

Correct page count is 303 pages - https://www.amazon.com/Solid-Ground-W...

message 662: by Eni (new)

Eni | 2349 comments Trojan Warships is coming!

It will start on the 1rst of July 9pm (UK time) and it will run for the rest of the challenge. It's a supergroup challenge, which means we will be working with our other Mythics teams as a group.

It's a battleship like game. We will be attacking the Aegeans and we will defend against the Trojans.

Please read the rules carefully, because they can be a bit tricky. If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

Countdown to the start of the challenge: https://www.timeanddate.com/countdown...

And yes, we will have Trojan Warships AND the mini monster active at the same time. The monster mini will only end on July 15th.

Stacey (boydsmom) | 1377 comments Well, I overestimated my ability to drink wine and finish my book at the same last night so only finished Imperfect Saint this morning -- I'll go change my dates -- BUT in the last 2 chapters of the book, my MC got a dog. I think that will count for our task, correct?

message 664: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 1896 comments Most definitely!

message 665: by Nanci (new)

Nanci | 2567 comments Drinking wine and reading are never a good combo for me zzzzz...although I keep trying to make it work!

Hooray for finding the dog!

message 666: by Nanci (new)

Nanci | 2567 comments Trojan Warships is going to be crazy along with monsters! I have a hard time focusing on too many at the same time!

Right?? And some of those tags -- yikes.

message 668: by Nanci (new)

Nanci | 2567 comments Yep, yikes for sure!

message 669: by Maddy (new)

Maddy | 2127 comments I second that. Yikes indeed. It looks like July will be intense

message 670: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 1896 comments Nice killing off the Empusa!
I'll get rid of the body, and ask for another monster.

message 671: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 1896 comments Here it is!
Stymphalian Birds

Stymphalian Birds have been seen filling your orchards and causing delays in harvesting. They are hard to defeat because of their numbers. Music can soothe the savage beasts, may want to try metal bands.

To vanquish this monster you must:
1.) Read a book between 350 and 450 pages (inclusive).
2.) Read a book that is #6 in a series.
3.) Read a book with a musical instrument mentioned in the text.
4.) Read a book with something metal on the cover.
5.) Read a book that features a bird (bird shifter accepted).

message 672: by Teresa (new)

Teresa (teresab78) | 1658 comments Skinny on Djinny has a metal lamp on cover and is on sheet
And I have a few on spreadsheet that fit the page requirement and I think one that has musical instrument in text (I can’t see the spreadsheet to check but I put in all tasks my books work for)

message 673: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 1896 comments Sweet!

message 674: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 1896 comments I finally finished my rock guide - author's last name is Pough. I'm going to try to finish all my books before July 1! Then start off anew.

message 675: by Maddy (new)

Maddy | 2127 comments the alpha contract is #6 in series

message 676: by Maddy (last edited Jun 26, 2022 09:42PM) (new)

Maddy | 2127 comments Live and Let chai features a bird, a seagul that lives on MC's property. It is called Lou

message 677: by Heather (new)

Heather Milne | 479 comments I finished My Brilliant Friend yesterday. I found it a little difficult to get into but when I did I really enjoyed it. = It is maybe not one of my favourite books ever but I found it interesting. I thought the writing was good and it illustrated the complexities of female friendship well.

Has anyone read the other books in the series? I am thinking of picking them up soon. I. want to know how Elena and Lila's lives play out.

message 678: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments Wine makes me sleepy.

I'll do some spreadsheet updating. I work on a computer all week and like to avoid it at as much as possible on the weekends.

message 679: by Mary X (last edited Jun 27, 2022 08:17AM) (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments I finished the Goldfinch and it works for the instrument one.

Can we count it for the bird task in same book? It's a painting not real bird. But the whole book revolves around this stolen bird painting. If not, I know a short cozy series where the MC has a pet parrot.

ETA: the Goldfinch also has "fig" mentioned a couple of times.

message 680: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments I'll do some more questions for Witch's Heart today so I can get my BOM points.

message 681: by Keely (last edited Jun 27, 2022 09:09AM) (new)

Keely (kiwifruit192) | 1819 comments I just finished The Book of Cold Cases. It would work for the metal on cover (there's a car on the cover), but it also work for quite a few other tasks. Some monsters it will cover two tasks so maybe we will want to keep it just in case. I've listed everything on the spreadsheet.

Goldfinch seems like it would work? I'll ask in the captain's group.

message 683: by Stacey (new)

Stacey (boydsmom) | 1377 comments The Harpies have been defeated. :)

message 684: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 1896 comments Awesome! I'm on it!

message 685: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 1896 comments Stacey, could you please tag it for your tt9 shelf?
:)

message 686: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 1896 comments Oh boy. Who's up for a door stopper??

Charybdis

Charybdis has been spotted close to your shores and endangering ships heading for the harbor. If you manage to defeat this monster be prepared to answer "how are you still alive" every time you tell the story. The monster is interested in helping you reach your childhood dream of finding what's in Davy Jones's Locker.

To vanquish this monster you must:
1.) Read a book 800 pages or longer.
2.) Author's name (first or last) starts with one of the letters in POOL.
3.) Read a book where the MC is forced to make a hard choice (your interpretation).
4.) Read a book with "fig" in the title or text.
5.) Read a book where the characters take a boat trip (of any type).

message 687: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 1896 comments I'm listening to Don Quixote on double speed, but then I have to go back to the Cliff Notes to see what happened....
Not the most efficient way of reading....

They kind of skipped over my question, so I say YES! The goldfinch works :) It's a bird for sure :)

Either way is good. If we use the Goldfinch for the bird, and this for the metal, we can conquer another monster.

This should be fixed now.

Maddy | 2127 comments thank you Laurie :)

message 694: by Nanci (new)

Nanci | 2567 comments Definitely yes for bird with Goldfinch!

I've been slow on my listening book. It's really good, but since the book is about a Vietnamese family who escapes from Vietnam in the 70s, the narrator has a strong Vietnamese accent, so I can't comprehend it on anything higher than 1.25 speed.

message 696: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 1896 comments Okay kids. Here's another door stopper...
Minotaur

The Minotaur has been seen on your lands, frolicking through fields and enjoying freedom for the first time. If you manage to defeat him, you will spend the rest of your life wondering how you survived. Don't forget some rope!

To vanquish this monster you must:
1.) Read a book 800 pages or longer.
2.) Read a book where the MC gets lost.
3.) Read a book with a map in it.
4.) character described as "bull-headed" or "hard-headed".
5.) Read a book with a Goodreads rating of 4.0 or higher.

What are you reading? It sounds interesting!

message 698: by Melissa (new)

message 700: by Stacey (last edited Jun 28, 2022 10:14AM) (new)

Stacey (boydsmom) | 1377 comments If there's anyone (besides me) that hasn't read A Game of Thrones it works for all 5 of the Minotaur tasks. I can switch to that, but I'm also about 1/3 of the way through a book that works for tasks 1/3/5 of Charybidis.

Sooooo many big books......
