Forgot title: Woman drives in car into hell or parallel universum and tries to find a way out

Years ago (probably in the eighthies) i read a scary book. I would love to read it again but forgot the title....

It's about a woman Who is driving on the road, she has just finished her work and is on her way home.
It's bad weather (at least I think it was bad weather...) Than she has to take an exit, because an police officer tells her to take the exit, he tells her that through her car window. She was driving slowy because of the bad weather and the traffic.
She thought the police officer was kind of strange and scary (at that point the reader already knows/feels that the Police man is a sort of demon/creep). I vaguely remember that he looked like some kind of a woolf.


Than for some reason, i cant remember, she ends up driving in a very scary, kind of a demonic, world. It's like hell. Very scare. I also think she had her child in her car while driving in this 'demonic' world. But I am not sure about that. I vagualy remember she was constantly worrying about her child. But don't know for sure...

She is trying to get out of that horryfing world she keeps on driving there on high ways I remember vaguely. The highways look kind of real, like in the ''normal world', but the skies in the place where she is driving have a different colour than the in our/real world. She is very scared I remember, and tries desperately to find the way out.

I also vagualy remember that she looked up into the sky and thought Like it was if the moon was sick or poisened (because it looked so scary).

I think the cover of the book was mainly red with some Orange and yellow. I think there was a face (drawing) of a woman on it with Creepy / fire eyes. Fire / flames around her face.

I Really Really hope someone knows this book! Thank you so much in advance for reply-ing and searching along with me. Excuse my English by the way, I am from Holland.
