Morgan seems to be a sucker for hard luck cases. The fact that she has taken in Gianna proves that. Also, I think the death of her husband has changed her and what she values as important.

Agree with both of you. Also Morgan seems at a bit of a loose end, stuck between grieving her husband and continuing her life. Her passion for justice for Nick is the catalyst she needs in a way to be able to come to terms with her grief and move forward.
