Sean now has custody of Jesse, the grandfather having backed down and relented. Jesse seems okay but Sean is clearly not. What’s going on with him?

Anita (anitanodiva) | 2953 comments Having sole custody and responsibility for Jesse is a big thing for Sean. Having it thrust on him and not being able to grow into it is really hitting him hard.

Robin (robinmy) | 2450 comments It's going to take a big adjustment in Sean's life to get used to having Jesse full time. He has to be a father to Jesse, not a buddy who he visits occasionally.

Anita (anitanodiva) | 2953 comments I also think Sean is still beating himself up for not being able to save Jesse's mother. I agree with Robin too, being Jesse's father is going to be different than being Jesse's buddy. I think Sean remembers what a handful he was as a teen and knows that some rough times may be ahead for them.

Charlene (charlenethestickler) | 1203 comments All of the above; also, Sean is trying to figure out how to love two people desperately: both Lucy and Jesse. He's growing into it.

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 3474 comments I agree with all of you. Most people have a preparation period before they step into the role of full-time parent. In a snap, Sean went from childless to the father of a 12-year-old son. He is doing a good job, everything considered.

Also, I think that Lucy is on his mind. He doesn't want her to feel cheated.

Ditto to everything you all said. To layer in the guilt Sean is experiencing for Maddie’s death is just a little much for him. He doesn’t feel in control, like he’s got all the answers and is on sure footing.
