As Devon looks for ways to keep the estate, he settles on an arranged marriage for Helen and a planned sale of the land worked by one of his tenants, the Wootens despite objections from Kathleen and West. Was he truly playing the hand he was dealt or taking easy routes?

Phrynne | 14 comments I think he started out playing it the only way he knew but then his conscience came into play and he started to look outside the square

Anita (anitanodiva) | 2953 comments He was playing the hand he was delt in order to keep solvent until he could figure out how to make it work in the long term.

Robin (robinmy) | 2450 comments I agree with both of you.

I truly believe Devon thought he was making the best decisions based on his options. When Kathleen presented such strong opposition, it gave him pause. When West presented his well researched findings and proposals, Devon had no choice but to give it opportunity. None of it ended up being easy for him.

Karen ♐ (kmk1214) | 909 comments I agree also that he was dealing with the situation the only way he could until he was able to find an alternative that made more sense. This was not an easy task for him at all.

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 3474 comments I agree. His experience and resources were limited. He came up with the best solution he could find until West and Kathleen made him look at other options.
