Lisa Fleming (korexeileithyia) | 45 comments A large group of female colonists leave Earth to start a new society based on feminine principles. No men are taken on the starship. All the women have some type of expertise in medicine, technology, sciences, architecture, farming... Etc. The ship stores tons of frozen embryos for them to implant/birth/raise. There's samples of vegetation, crops, animals, etc. The ship holds a library that is the sum of human knowledge for them to use as they build a new society.
Fast forward several generations, women rule the govt on their planet. It's technology futuristic, almost medieval in societal terms. There's the ruling class. Men are the gender to be protected and cared for. Men aren't allowed to pick up weapons and fight. Only women are. Arraigned marriage happens quite a bit but they try to make sure the married couple is compatible.
There's a prophecy of a warrior that is a weapons master in this weapon that's kind of an double axe/blade with cord/extension from the handle (one on each end) that's extremely dangerous. This woman would always practice and perform these good deeds in secret. The planet has a bird like animal that is used as transportation. There are places on the planet that are too dangerous to live, having heavy thunder among other dangers.
The protagonist is a member of the ruling class. She's maybe mid 30s. The entire council is giving her grief as she's unmarried and no children. Her arch nemesis is another woman trying to get her thrown off the council and take over her inherited title, lands, etc. In other to save herself she sequestered in her home far away in the country. She married a younger male who doesn't like how men are basically treated like kept pets. He practices training with these force whip type blades cause he wants to fight and make a difference. In other words he's breaking the law every chance he gets and needs the security of her house (noble lineage) to protect him from his own bull headed actions. She needs him to have a family and secure her family's seat and responsibilities. When they are trying to get to know each other a friend on the council sends her a message saying congratulations on the pregnancy... Code for you're married have a baby that's what I told everyone to explain why you aren't in chambers. She accelerated the pregnancy...3 months total. It's possible in this story line but it's dangerous. The man she married is stubborn but realized he cares about her, even tho he feels like a prize stud out in a shelf. She over looks a lot of his choices because she believes they should be equal. I forget who fights her arch nemesis... Herself it the new husband but one of them did. She's able to protect him barely under the guise he was fighting for the safety of his child and his wife, he was caught fighting at some point mid way to later in the story... And was facing being killed for it. At the end of the book she's in a quiet place practicing as the weapons master she is, and no one else knows about, along with remembering things she's done secretly to keep her works safe like the prophecy described. If you can remember the name of the book and author please let me know. Thank you.

Please edit your topic header/title so that it contains plot details. All headers must contain plot details.

We close threads with vague headers.

Lisa Fleming (korexeileithyia) | 45 comments Lobstergirl no they aren't the same books. One is about a prince looking for the one girl that is meant for him. This one is post Earth matriarchal society.
