Esteban Stipnieks I have been to Australia twice..... I am the nephew of the fishing buddy the long time head of National Library of Australia. The 2 men were POWs one of the Nazis (head of National library) and one of the allies (his fishing buddy Latvian DP) I could not stop laughing about Canberra.... Bill introduces correctly it is both Hot and when I visited Cold. My uncle lived in Fisher and his house was with a bit of Australian HUmor known as the Latvian embassy. From the house you could see vast swaths of park and wilderness areas as you can from downtown Canberra. July 1991 I remember Cotter dam being flooded..... leaving Canberra to the coast you go through a section of great dividing range 2 lane highway..... I also remember many runs in above freezing but with biting wind 5k circuit in Fisher which was strangely like being in Texas but not like being Texas.... the grass had the same color, the wind cut like a Texas Blue Norther opposite diruction and drip drip drip drip of over running moisture was like Texas hill country peak cold miserable El Nino.... except there was a cricket ptich and European style pedestrian udnerpass the neigheborhodds were scattered. The nice chinese place wea ate at was something you would see in the suburbs of the USA. I am really liking his book so far can't wait to read about Cairins and Brisbane. On Canberra pity he did not go to restored planation settlement house and farm.... near the city with its Ned Kelly art collection..... Bill would have seen much Texas simularities there
