Hi all.
I am searching for a book I saw long long ago in a bargain bin, but while the concept intrigued me, I was fool enough not to buy.
The premise I hear you ask?
A samurai warrior has memory loss so he cannot recall anything more than the day he is living (I think), so he writes the events of each day on parchment scrolls which he carries with him.
I think it's title was something like The Warrior of Mist.

I done a search and there is a fantasy series with a similar title, but this was from back in the day when book series wasn't a given thing, maybe 80's.....like the samurai, my memory isn't good either.
Any help would be great.

Adult fiction, cover was a sepia profile drawing of a samurai warrior, full body facing spine to right. holding a very long roll of parchment from outstretched hand to ground.

Or are you saying that it looked like it could be from the 80s? If so, please let us know what year you think you saw it!

There's this book Yamakiri-Warrior of the Mist by Stuart Campbell that mentions samurai in the description, but it looks like it was published in 2014.

yeah Jen...it was definitely 80s that I saw it. definitely in the cheap bin.....I did check Goodreads and Google and saw the one you mentioned. sadly, from the blurb on the back of the one I'm looking for the amnesia aspect seemed central to the plot, so don't think it's that one. guess it was a one shot for the author.

Soldier Of The Mist by Gene Wolfe? Not a samurai but the cover and the blurb seem to match

It's not about a samurai but a Greek warrior, but the blurb, publication date and title of Soldier of the Mist seems to fit your description
