April 2022 - catch up month

Thanks for starting the thread, Kate! I'm thinking on re-reading the very first monthly read this group had - Darwin's Radio - I've read in around 2010 so Haven't re-read with the group then
I just borrowed Cloud Atlas from library. I'm reading that with Allan, although I probably won't have time to begin until Easter.
Antti - I’ve got it on audio & can start whenever you’re ready. I might be a little slow the week following Easter as I’ll be out of town visiting family, but I’ll work it in. I’ve got a couple other books going now but I can adjust as needed.

Yes it is good, but very emotion-heavy

In addition to Cloud Atlas, I want to attempt Up the Walls of the World, and if I get through that, A Midsummer Tempest. Those are the only monthly reads I haven’t read. The latter two were a struggle when I tried them the first time but maybe if I take them in small doses I can get through.

I'm so glad you are liking it Kate, I recall it didn't initially jive with you. It is quite intense but great storytelling.

Well I thought I was going to read Babel-17 but the last few months I got really busy and fell very behind, so I'm probably just going to catch up on this winter's reading and do Babel-17 if I get really lucky (probably not). I'm hoping to tackle any from this list:
Kalpa Imperial
The Killing Moon
Blood of Elves
The Time of Contempt
We
The Female Man
Kalpa Imperial
The Killing Moon
Blood of Elves
The Time of Contempt
We
The Female Man
@Antti: I needed an audio book and might not have a lot of reading time after Easter, so I went ahead and started Cloud Atlas. I’m about 30% through and moving at a good pace. However, I’m headed into what will be a very busy work week, so it will probably take me most of the week to finish.
Allan: Yeah, no problem: I think I'll start mid-week or so, as soon as I finish the book I'm currently reading.

I liked the first, but then the second looked like it was a different character . . . but then it wasn't, really. However, (view spoiler)

There was some earlier discussion that Butler planned it to be more books, but she passed away before she added to it.

The third final volume was in the works, there are a lot of drafts, but Butler died before finishing

Finished Cloud Atlas, which was my main goal for catch-up. That leaves me with only three group reads I haven't finished:
The Glass Bead Game - 50% through
A Midsummer Tempest
Up the Walls of the World

Allan, I disliked A Midsummer Tempest but liked Up the Walls of the World
I recall them as both being short, so maybe you will have time for both

I got through 4 of these 6, so that's pretty good! For our H/N group I managed The Killing Moon. I don't think I'll make it to read We or The Female Man before month's end. I'm leaning towards reading the Hugo short stories in the next couple days.

That IS good! I only got through one but I’m to the point where the remaining reads we’re not everyone’s favorites.
I only read one book, Cloud Atlas. It was good! I remember how I was disappointed I didn't have time to read it when it originally was the Monthly Read, so this Catch-Up was much appreciated.

I may try The Golem and the Jinni again. I liked the beginning OK, but I ran out of time
