Practical Magic by Alice Hoffman – 4 Stars (Rounded up)

When Gillian and Sally are orphaned, they are taken in by their aunts and have to face years of teasing and taunting, due to their aunt’s magical powers. Turning their backs on magic, they begin to forge lives of their own. Whilst magic did play a role in this story, it was not an overwhelming part, with the focus being more of the relationships within the family and the wish to live life on your own terms. This isn’t my favourite book by Hoffman, but it was an easy read, and an enjoyable way to spend a couple of afternoons, so I will probably look to pick up more in this series in future.
