Jesse is very vulnerable right now. Sean is doing everything he can to reassure Jesse he loves and wants him in his life. Lucy is helping a great deal by being open and accepting to Jesse.
Jesse was told by Madison that his father did not want him. He thought that was the case for twelve years. I think it would be hard for him to get used to the idea that Sean really wanted him in his life. Jesse likes Lucy and can talk to her about his feelings.
Yes, Robin. Having been told for twelve years that he was unwanted by his biological father had to have done serious damage to Jesse's openness to Sean and to Lucy. I was glad he was able to receive their love as quickly as he did.
Jesse was feeling comfortable until Sean was willing to let him go back home and after seeing his relationship with the boys at St. Catherine’s Boys Home. It made him insecure and, as both Robin & Charlene state, he had years of being told his biological father didn’t want him. It’s going to take some time and reinforcement for Jesse to gain security in his relationship with Sean.
Lucy is extremely helpful, helping to ground Sean and be a sounding board for Jesse.
