Despite Sean’s attention to Jesse, his son feels insecure about his commitment to him. What sourced Jesse’s feelings and could Sean have done anything differently? Was Lucy helpful?

Anita (anitanodiva) | 2953 comments Jesse is very vulnerable right now. Sean is doing everything he can to reassure Jesse he loves and wants him in his life. Lucy is helping a great deal by being open and accepting to Jesse.

Robin (robinmy) | 2450 comments Jesse was told by Madison that his father did not want him. He thought that was the case for twelve years. I think it would be hard for him to get used to the idea that Sean really wanted him in his life. Jesse likes Lucy and can talk to her about his feelings.

Charlene (charlenethestickler) | 1203 comments Yes, Robin. Having been told for twelve years that he was unwanted by his biological father had to have done serious damage to Jesse's openness to Sean and to Lucy. I was glad he was able to receive their love as quickly as he did.

Jesse was feeling comfortable until Sean was willing to let him go back home and after seeing his relationship with the boys at St. Catherine’s Boys Home. It made him insecure and, as both Robin & Charlene state, he had years of being told his biological father didn’t want him. It’s going to take some time and reinforcement for Jesse to gain security in his relationship with Sean.

Lucy is extremely helpful, helping to ground Sean and be a sounding board for Jesse.

Anita (anitanodiva) | 2953 comments Sean being willing to send Jesse home showed how much Sean wanted to make sure Jesse was safe, but Jesse took it all wrong. Seeing Sean with the other boys made Jesse jealous. Sean had a whole other side to his life with the boys that Jesse wasn't a part of.
