The worst year to be alive in human history. During this time, the western roman empire had fallen to barbarians. the eastern roman empire in response launched a long reconquest of the former western roman empire. Finding great success in North Africa . As well as retaking Italy from the Ostrogoths. Though during this year the offensive stalled as the Lombardi tribe stormed into Italy. The Romans began to bicker between generals. The barbarians quickly capturing the war ravaged country side. While the Roman garrisoned cities held strong. Then to make things worse, God has shown his displeasure at humanities many wars. Blocking out the sun. The crops cannot grow, the animals that feed on them starve and in return people starve and turn to cannibalism. Those who are malnourished become harbors to disease and outbreaks of the plague of Justinian have appeared everywhere. Many wonder if this is indeed the end times as foretold in the book of revelations.

((my notes on this video for the food that might be avalible to eat.

Puls or porrage, bread, sheep cheese, vegetables, fruits and nuts, olives, olive oil and wine. Cake bread, made with milk and lard, oyster bread, water or spongey bread, Picennum or bread made with nuts and honey. the cheapest and most basic meal is to dip bread in wine. Or dip bread in olive oil. Moretum or a cheese spread for bread. sheep, goat and cow cheese. But Romans like sheep and goat cheese. Even a famous smoked cheese. Cheese is expensive item. Romans had salads and salad dressing. Cows were most common from Germania. Meat was most expensive and romans really enjoyed pork. Pork was eaten in a stew or sausage. Fresh fish was used to impress important guests.

white bread is most beloved and most expensive
dark bread or coarse bread
slave bread))

Ideas

The governor’s son thinks he can run the region better than his father so he forms a conspiracy to conduct a coup on his father with trusty officers and loyal men.

The son is young only in his early 20’s if his coup is successful a centurion will announce it while he stands back and a tear rolls down his face. The son is a quiet man. A thinker who only speaks when it is needed.

The coup starts at night as the conspiracy kills the guards then marches into the palace and into the map room where the governor stands looking over maps. While more of the conspiracy slaughter servants and slaves that might eat out the conspiracy.

Before they finally confronts the governor and stab him, each legionary stabbing him once. Then as the father reaches to his son the son backs away letting his father die as blood pools under him and the son circles him.

While the party follows a trail of blood to a woman who was stabbed and slowly crawling away while her two attackers kill the rest in the room. Upon seeing the party the head legionary being the one that knocked out Marion both attack the party and try to kill them.

The fall of genua

The bells ring warning everyone that they are under attack.

“We don’t stand a chance the enemy outnumbers us.” Screams a centurion

“Here comes the marines.” As the marines land on the south to support the defenders

“The enemy has been sighted moving in from the north.”

The half strength foderati move to man the baracade

The marines move to reinforce the half strength foderati as the marines arrive the godansmen, godan’s chosen and scaled clubmen come within range of javelins

The Germans “come on stand like a man” as they are pelted with javilins

Godansmen and godan’s chosen attack the baracade and try to destroy it. While the foderati and marines poke and prode. The sagittarii shoot their arrows at those attacking the baracade in the north west of the acropolis

“Strike low, strike low into their bellies.” Says the German warriors as metal clanks

The baracade breaks apart and a melee begins. The foderati are quickly overwhelmed and run for their lives as the scouts engage the Germanic archers. The marines are quickly overwhelmed as well as the German noble swordsmen join the fray

“God keep me alive for a moment longer for revenge.” Says the foderati standard bearer as he flees

At the same time in the north eastern entrance to the acropolis the full strength unit of foderati are overwhelmed by two units of German warbands and horse hewers. The foderati run for their lives

“God protect me, for there is still wine to drink.” A fleeing foderati legionary

In response the limitanei move from blocking the south entrance to block the northwest entrance. But then the foderati find their resolve and reform. Making Flavius order the limitanei back to reinforce the faltering foderati. Who are now on the norther wall. All the while the scouts route the German archers. Then attack another archer unit.

“God listen, I want to live.” A fleeing foderati soldier.

Limitanei then engage a German warband in front of the chapel. While the foderati are charged behind the chapel. The horse hewers charge into the limitanei in the south flank. While the last of the foderati break and flew for good

The sagittarii are charged by horse hewers just as the scouts are cut down by arrow fire and break and flee.

Then the limitanei and sagittarii break and flee at the same time. The whole battle lasting 5:26 minutes. Western foderati flee the town to the north east.

The garrison is 510. They lost 372 with 138 escaping.

While the invaders came with 2340 and lost 470 with 1870 remaining.

He builds 7 fortified camps north of the city after a small skirmish with roman Calvary. Then cuts the Aqueducts that have supplied the city for 800 years. But the city wells still have drinking water.

The Goths build towers and ladders, they use oxen to pull the towers and ladders. After the romans shoot the beasts, the towers are left stranded. The Mausoleum of Hadrian, converted into a fortress comes under heavy pressure.

The Assaults' fails and the romans celebrate. Both sides prepare for a siege and Belisarius lifts moral personally

notes on the Picts:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WVGW8...
The Picts drank wine, practiced trade and metal working, their language is closest to the Brittonic people who were on the island before the romans conquered them.

They raised cattle and hunted with dogs and falcons. Meat and milk was their staple foods.

The people are known for having many tattoos. It is thought to be a matriarchal society. They worship both many pagan gods and also are converting to Christianity. As they are merging with the local Gaelic cultures.

To the East if the docks is the fish and wine market. Up the hill is the acropolis with the local church at the center of it. To the southwest of the acropolis is the guardhouse the houses the garrison.
