I’m only 1/3 of the way through, but so far I’m enjoying it.

Ben Rowe (benwickens) One of the challenging things about discussing this book is spoilers and many of the reviews I have seen reveal far to much. This is a slow burn book where we gradually learn more and more and the whole story is slowly revealed.

Some people have called this a Hard SF book but there is some rather soft science in it, as well as some interesting math/science explorations. I was glad I read it for the different perspective, partly from its Clarkian influences which are outside my reading norms and also from its Chinese influences and roots as well.

Did find it quietly compelling though I would have liked more literary writing (like Ken Liu's on work) and a greater focus on characters but as Big Idea/ concept led SF it is well worth checking out.

Not sure if I will continue on to the two sequels other than dipping into a free sample to see how the different translator handles the translation.
