Okay, then i will pair soon. When do you all want to start?

About the genres, does anyone else wants to reduce number of genres?

Bookworm (have loads of catching up to do) | 1001 comments Just a suggestion -
Instead of removing completely, we can club sister genres ( Say fantasy/sci-fi as one category and Horror/thriller/mystery as one cat) or even opposite genres (like fiction & non-fiction as one).
That way no one's favourite genre gets removed. And say if someone doesn't feel like reading sci-fi they can read fantasy and still complete the task.

Personally, I'm fine with not removing anything or otherwise.

that's a great idea but we need new categories to replace them. suggestions are invited. :)

Bookworm (have loads of catching up to do) | 1001 comments New categories as in to make total number of categories as 10?

If so, we can some categories like this -
1. Book from a birthday month (this was there before I think, while you were suggesting this challenge idea)
2. Book title that has the starting alphabet same as one's username (we can exclude articles if needed).
3. An Underrated book (say <30k ratings and <4 avg rating)
4. Highly rated book (say > 500k ratings and >4 avg rating)
5. Been in TBR shelf prior to 2022 Feb (goodreads).

3. 4. & 5. will allow us to read books that're in our tbr since ages.

but those are categories not genre... or lets five of us suggest two categories each and make a new list this time to cover 2000-10?

message 213: by Pallavi (new)

Pallavi (bookfetisher) ok.. I suggest
1. Fantasy/Sci fi
2. Nonfiction /Memoir/Selfhelp/Science/Nature (all in one)

True...Only as categories.
Sure.

3. Thriller/Horror/Mystery
4. Literary Fiction (character driven/political commentary/social commentary)

What all do we have left -
romance,
historical,
magical realism (literary fic with realistic setting & magical elements, so comes within that)
Dystopian,
Speculative fiction (combo of dystopia, fantasy, sci-fi)

@Em -- Since, many of these are either superset or subsets. are these allowed as categories?

message 215: by Nathan (new)

Nathan (nathan-93) | 554 comments How about dark/Crime/noir as an option.

message 216: by Visalakshi (new)

Visalakshi (vishu-potter) | 231 comments If we are gonna have 10 categories either way , we could just go with the previous categories. They were fine

I had free time yesterday, snooped around a bit on internet and found some of these challenges https://imgur.com/a/DOTr9wR

Check them out and share what you think of these, if you like we can pick one of these... We can do these categories in 2000-10 or 2000-21.

Bookworm (have loads of catching up to do) | 1001 comments @Em, These are nice. I liked all of these. Last one a bit more (

All four will pick one board and then start reading as a team. Suppose board one i.e. Summer challenge is selected. Its has 24 category, then both participants has to read 12 books each. They have decide the categories they wants to tackle. About decade they also have to decide if they want to cover 2000-10 or 2000-20.

message 221: by Nathan (new)

Nathan (nathan-93) | 554 comments We can pause the decade challenge & go for board challenge only. Separate one. Why mix two things???

message 222: by Bookworm (have loads of catching up to do) (last edited Apr 23, 2022 08:20PM) (new)

Bookworm (have loads of catching up to do) | 1001 comments @Em, I'm dividing the link you found with multiple boards to individual ones. It'll be easier for us to vote and finalize one board.

Board 2: beat the blacklist 2022. 1st one.

Bookworm (have loads of catching up to do) | 1001 comments Since Board 2 and Board 5 have too many tasks, maybe we can exclude them?

If so, that leaves us with Board 1, 3, 4 & 6. Let's vote!!

message 224: by Visalakshi (new)

Visalakshi (vishu-potter) | 231 comments My thoughts are similar to Nathan. Why don't we stick with our decade challenge. see it through? our initial point of discussion was 10 books for 1 person will be hard! groups of 2 would be fine

Bookworm (have loads of catching up to do) | 1001 comments I'm fine with keeping them separate too.
@Em, @Pallavi, what about you guys?

message 227: by Pallavi (new)

Which one you guys wants to do first? Decade or Bingo?

message 229: by Bookworm (have loads of catching up to do) (last edited Apr 24, 2022 01:53AM) (new)

Bookworm (have loads of catching up to do) | 1001 comments I prefer Decade first. Will be fine if it's otherwise too.
Bingo, we could go when we have couple more players, that way it'll be more easier and fun to tackle the board as groups.

message 235: by Nathan (new)

Up to you. You can discuss it here or create a new thread too.

Team 1

Bookworm (have loads of catching up to do) | 1001 comments @Em: Book-to-movie, either the book or the movie has to be in the decade, both are not needed right?

one should not like these messy stories where someone keep questioning motherhood and the upbringing of their kids. this constant upheaval in a parent's life, this is all disturbing but the way things stands in today's society where parents and kids are mostly different pages about their view of life, this book just hit differently and very hard.

have you read or watched the movie? Gorab said movie is also very good, so i will check it out too sometime.

message 248: by Visalakshi (new)

Visalakshi (vishu-potter) | 231 comments I haven't watched or read this one. Will give it a try. I like book to movie genre cause we'll get to see different interpretation and adaptation of the same idea. It's interesting to see how movies change or enhance a book!

message 249: by Leena (new)

Leena Aluru (mgleena) | 7181 comments em, I've not done either.its such disturbing plot ...and you're right pointing fingers at the parenting is such a convenient way to write off any issues. society at large seems to be an equal if not more of a contributor.
