I tried to keep this challenge simple and easy.

The purpose of this challenge is to read books from previous years. I don't know about others but I usually get distracted by new releases which I see repeatedly on my GR feed. I jump the wagon and so ignoring what is already been on my bookshelves for years. So one can also say that this a way to clear out some of those books from my to-read shelf.

This is how it works, I have prepared a list of genre/categories. Suppose some reads The Fifth Season, Little Fires Everywhere, The Travelling Cat Chronicles, and Born a Crime: Stories From a South African Childhood and so on. And this is how they will cross out the years and categories.

2011 - Award - Hugo - Blackout
2012 - Translation - The Travelling Cat Chronicles
2013 - Book to Movie - Allegiant
2014 - Fantasy - Words of Radiance
2015 - sci-fi - The Fifth Season
2016 - Non-fic - Born a Crime: Stories From a South African Childhood
2017 - Fiction - Little Fires Everywhere
2018 - Horror - Dracul
2019 - YA - On the Come Up
2020 - Mystery - The Night Swim

Hope above list cleared how this challenge will work.

-------------------------------------------------------------

Genres/Categories
1) Award Winner
2) Translation
3) Horror
4) Fantasy
5) YA
6) Fiction
7) Sci-fi
8) Non-Fic
9) Book to Movie
10) Mystery/Crime/Thriller

This will be a team challenge. Two members min and five members maximum per team. Points will be rewarded for every book and bonus points for whichever team complete a decade first.

Book page count must be between 300-500 for this.

Challenge will go live on April 1.

message 10: by Pallavi (new)

Pallavi (bookfetisher) I'm in

message 11: by Pallavi (new)

Pallavi (bookfetisher) I also have a doubt in this...
Is it like we need to read a book that falls into a category for each year of the decade?
Say Category =Fantasy.
So read books that belong to Fantasy genre published in year 2011,2012 .... to 2020.

So 10 books belonging to 1 category that are published in each year of the decade .

Am i correct?

That will take a lot of dedication and time ;)

No, one book per category.

message 13: by Pallavi (new)

Pallavi (bookfetisher) ok... got it :)

Bookworm (have loads of catching up to do) | 1001 comments If we end up with odd number of participants, we'll just go ahead with uneven teams, right?

message 19: by Nathan (new)

Nathan (nathan-93) | 554 comments Well the last odd person who joins will probably go solo I guess

Bookworm (have loads of catching up to do) | 1001 comments @Em,
Or can she/he join another of the teams. Say, if 15 are interested we can make teams of 3. If some odd no. like 19, one team can have 4 and the rest 3? (Unless, someone does want to go solo)

message 21: by Em Lost In Books, EmLo is my Name, PIFM is my Game (new)

Em Lost In Books (emlostinbooks) | 24795 comments Mod
We have five so far, so its two on each team for now, fifth have to wait till another person sign up. But I will ask someone to join to even out the teams with three members on each team to start the challenge with.

After that whoever sign up have to wait till we have enough members to make a new team or even out the existing teams.

I would love to join but I get very less time nowadays . would surely have joined if this was a personal challenge.. but being a team challenge I am worried of letting down my team , which is invariably going to happen.

message 25: by Bookworm (have loads of catching up to do) (last edited Mar 24, 2022 08:51PM) (new)

Bookworm (have loads of catching up to do) | 1001 comments @Leena, there're points for each book and also bonus points for team that completes a decade first. So maybe each decade can be considered as a round, I think.

@Em, the duration is whichever team completes the decade first and wins? Or we continue with decades till the 2022 year end (or some particular month) and whichever team has max points wins?

message 26: by Em Lost In Books, EmLo is my Name, PIFM is my Game (new)

Em Lost In Books (emlostinbooks) | 24795 comments Mod
@Leena - fastest wins.

@Bookworm - we are doing 2011-20 first, then 2000-10. Both teams going to have same numbers of points as they are given on the bases of books completed.

Ohok. Yeah. I thought once a decade is complete, the team that completes it first gets bonus. It's in your description, 1st msg.

I meant team to finish a decade will get bonus. And if others wants to do a 2000-10, we can do that too. :)

Ok. I mistook it as only fastest team gets bonus(when it completes a dec). That clears it. :)

message 31: by Visalakshi (new)

Visalakshi (vishu-potter) | 231 comments Can we pick a single book which will cover 2-3 categories or just 1 category per book?

Bookworm (have loads of catching up to do) | 1001 comments 1 category (Even if it fits 2-3 categories, it'll still be linked to only 1 year).

visalakshi, the genre of the book will be what's mentioned in the main genre on GR page

message 36: by Visalakshi (new)

Visalakshi (vishu-potter) | 231 comments Yes leena, I didn't mean that. what i meant was can I pick a book that will cross out both YA and Fantasy categories. Or pick a book which crosses out both SciFi and book to movie category.

But we can only consider a book for a single category
