ALL OF THIS! It's heartbreaking, but the story just completely captivates! (I may have shed a tear or two, but there were no witnesses). ;)
One thing I have to say is that if it weren't for this being chosen as a group read, I probably would never have discovered it. You never know what books will make a "lasting" impression on you, personally. Judging by the cover, I would never have bothered. So glad the members chose this!!

Every month! I didn't get to Bunny this month, time allow..."

I hear you. I've currently signed up for like 4 GoodReads groups that I want to do the monthly readings for... there's no way I'm going to be able to keep up. But I'm gonna try! ;P

Definitely find time for Bunny sometime, though. It was super fun.

message 105: by Sally (new) - rated it 5 stars

Sally | 340 comments @KDL I will for sure read it eventually

Krystal (krystallee6363) | 878 comments Glad so many are loving this as much as I did! I was really pleasantly surprised by it, I found it so unique.

LTJ (ltj81) | 2002 comments Greetings, my friends! I'm about to start this one tonight after work and I can't wait! Looking forward to see what this is all about :-)

message 108: by Holli (new)

Holli Cox (hollijcox) Somehow I lost 3 weeks of time and thought we were still on the March buddy read and prepping for the April one. smh... going to snag this via KU and am super excited about the mostly positive reviews. My main reading genre is fantasy so looking forward to this mashup!

message 109: by LTJ (new) - rated it 5 stars

LTJ (ltj81) | 2002 comments @Holli: LoL it happens to me too which always brings that famous "so many books, such little time" quote up for me. No worries at all and happy reading :-D

message 110: by Ann (new) - rated it 4 stars

Ann Schwader (annkschwader) | 159 comments I just finished last night. Did predict part of the ending -- a horror standard -- but all in all was very pleased with the time I spent reading this one. Incredibly unusual. A couple of non-spoiler observations:

-- This was possibly the most mind-warping thing I've read since maybe Elizabeth Hand's Wylding Hall. Same feeling of stepping into a nightmare I can't step back out of.

-- Eamon & Runney both wind up having the same experience of having gone beyond the hedge, after being warned by their elders NOT to. Doesn't work out all that well for either of them!

YES! Wylding Hall was exactly what came to mind--unable to explain why, but that book just took a hold of me and now I reread it at least once a year. That's how this one made me feel--like something that will keep drawing me back.

Rikki | 62 comments I'm 62% of the way into this book and I love it so far! The writing is absolutely beautiful, and the story is so fantastical and unique. This is currently sitting at a 4.5 star rating for me, but it won't take much to bump it up to a 5 star rating.

message 116: by Sally (new) - rated it 5 stars

Sally | 340 comments @Rikki and LTJ I am still thinking about this book. Loved it so much and I really want it to become popular so someone makes it into a graphic novel. I would pre-order that in a heartbeat!

LTJ (ltj81) | 2002 comments @Sally: LoL I NEED TO READ FASTER! Everyone is speaking so highly of this one, I should be able to drop a few hours into this tonight :-)

It's a slow-burn until it's not. And then -- it is definitely NOT. And just keep in mind, all those details you're slogging through now will indeed prove to be significant later on. Or at least, the vast majority of them will. (-:

Rikki | 62 comments I’m curious, does anyone have a favorite animal character? I really loved Flackwell Frog because he is so proper yet relaxed. He didn’t seem to have it out for humanity quite as much as the rest.

Finn is a really cool character! I would love to have a collection of the characters as little statuettes.

On the authors facebook page, he says he is having a someone carve a statuette of Runny. Im not sure if he is going to expand it to the other characters or not. He is considering auctioning the piece off for charity.

It would be really neat to have a set featuring each character.

Rachel (rachelunabridged) | 589 comments just finished today, and wow, this book was so much heavier and darker than i was initially expecting. i feel like i'm gonna need time to process the whole thing before forming coherent thoughts.
i definitely enjoyed the read though! the way he built it up in the beginning and was able to bring pretty much all of it back around again in the end was just incredible. i was also so invested in the characters, animal and human alike. definitely a 5-star read for me!

I think this is honestly one of the best books I've read this year so far. Completely unexpected find, for me!!

LTJ (ltj81) | 2002 comments @Kimberly: Yes! It's taken me a bit longer to finish this one up due to work but my goodness, I'm enjoying it! Totally unexpected and not in a goofy way but something truly dark, eerie, and creepy!

LTJ--It's one of those that I can't stop coming back to, mentally. I've been thinking about it on and off since I finished. This one is definitely a re-read book for me!

message 143: by LTJ (new) - rated it 5 stars

LTJ (ltj81) | 2002 comments LoL YES! It's very good, especially with all the twists that I've encountered so far, should be able to get back into my reading groove tonight and then get to some awesome May group reads :-D

agreed! both picks for may ended up being solid hits for me. even though they were both on my tbr already, i'd had some doubts about them. now wishing i had read them sooner!

message 145: by LTJ (new) - rated it 5 stars

LTJ (ltj81) | 2002 comments LoL I love when that happens and happy to hear that! Now that work is easing up on me a bit, I plan to go back to my wild reading ways in just a few hours :-D

LTJ (ltj81) | 2002 comments On a 5-day break from work and am finally able to finish this one! About to hit 90% on it and have been absolutely enjoying it, now I wonder how it ends because as it stands, it's a 4, could be a perfect 5/5 if the ending blows me away...

I landed on a 4.5 but it stuck with me enough after that I bumped it up to the elusive 5. It's just that good!

message 148: by LTJ (new) - rated it 5 stars

LTJ (ltj81) | 2002 comments @Krystal: Yes! Exactly the same here, before I got to the ending, it was a definite 4 but everything ended so perfectly and in a way I never expected that I was very happy with the outcome. I also gave it a 5 and thought it was a brilliantly written novel.

The characters, twists, carnage, it had everything I love to read in a horror novel and then some. Even though I felt it definitely had a slow burn at first, once it picked up, WOW, it just was a genuine page-turner and kept me hooked. LoL lots of creepy scenes as well...

Kimberly (kimberly_3238) | 7707 comments Mod
Honestly, I debated the 4.5, but because of how much I was (still am!) thinking about it, it became a definite 5. Any book that stays with me like that is top tier!

message 150: by LTJ (new) - rated it 5 stars

LTJ (ltj81) | 2002 comments @Kimberly: YES! I completely agree, for me, it was a 4 up until the ending which is how it usually is for me. If the ending blows me away, it gets that 5, if it doesn't, it stays either a 4 or could go lower if it annoys me. LoL not the case here and I'll definitely remember this for a while :-)
