Okay so I have questions with how far can I push boundaries regarding the Southern Rebel Leader. I was going to make him a mildly insane sadist who is not going to be remotely nice and will happily murder, abuse etc etc anyone who stands in his way. How far can I go with this? I don't want anyone to be upset if he's a hugely awful person because I can tone it down if need be. I just wanted to get a feel for how okay people are to have such a nasty character...of course he won't kidnap or kill anyone unless permission is given by their creator but their death will likely be pretty grisly.

I'm going to use Ryan Gosling FC with his look from place beyond the pines.

elle; I think that's actually perfect. I would also make sure he's charming, or at least has some manner of manipulating people to get what he wants. Because, honestly, if you think of all the horrendous people who were sadists, or leaders in terrible events like the Holocaust, they were eloquent, compelling, and at the very core, corrupted and always thinking that they're right.
So, I'd go for it.
