Ok, so, Aarav almost feels protective of Azalea, she almost thinks of her as a little sister because she is always so innocent and bubbly. So, assuming Azalea and Aarav were to both get into elite, Aarav would be super conflicted about what would happen if she won and Azalea had to go back home after she had already developed feelings for Oliver, so, instead, Aarav would send Azalea a letter telling her that she plans to run away, and then after Aarav had escaped the palace, she would somehow die, but she would hope with all her heart that Azalea wins the selection, even down to her last breath.
